Sebastian Vettel: "Spa is altijd een bijzondere race voor mij"

De coureurs kunnen weer aan de bak na een korte maar welverdiende zomerstop. De Grand Prix van België staat komend weekend voor de deur. Sebastian Vettel kijkt er naar uit om weer te kunnen racen en hoopt op een goed resultaat in België.

Voor de Duitser is de Grand Prix van België één van zijn favoriete. Eau Rouge is volgens Leclerc een topsectie, ook zijn collega Sebastian Vettel is het daar mee eens."Spa-Francorchamps is een legendarisch circuit en absoluut één van mijn favorieten. Het is heel bijzonder met al dat hoogteverschil en met een groot deel van de baan dat min of meer door het bos loopt", aldus Vettel op de officiële Ferrari-website.

Veel verschillen met vroeger

Sebastian Vettel draait al een tijdje mee in de Formule 1. De bolides waren vroeger heel anders, ook dat merk je volgens de Duitser op de baan. "Natuurlijk is dit circuit in de loop van de tijd ook veranderd, net als de auto's waarmee we rijden. Ik herinner me de eerste keer dat ik hier in de Formule 1 racete en vergeleken met toen zijn sommige bochten nu gemakkelijker omdat we meer aero-downforce hebben op de auto's. Eau Rouge kunnen we nu volledig vol gas, maar het is nog steeds uniek, terwijl bochten zoals Pouhon en Blanchimont ook spectaculair zijn."

Perfectie vereist op circuit Spa-Francorchamps

De 32-jarige Ferrari-coureur meent dat er weinig plek is voor een fout. Als je een fout maakt kost het je op dit lange circuit veel tijd. Volgens de Duitsers is er dus ook veel perfectie en focus voor nodig. "Je moet een perfecte exit uit Eau Rouge krijgen om zoveel mogelijk snelheid te hebben op weg naar Les Combes, waar je dankzij het slipstream-effect kunt inhalen. Vanaf Pouhon is het circuit gewoon geweldig als je het gaspedaal helemaal indrukt tot aan de busstop-chicane, wat een ander realistisch punt is om te proberen in te halen. Als je het eenmaal weet, is het onmogelijk om niet van Spa te houden."

Mensen die nog steeds wat lacherig over een bepaalde coureur doen geven naar mijn bescheiden mening blijk de F1 bepaald niet goed te kennen. Het is nu eenmaal onmogelijk dat er in de F1 alleen maar topcoureurs rondrijden, zoveel zijn er simpelweg niet. Maar die coureurs die er wel rondrijden hebb... [Lees verder]

De meeste coureurs zullen Spa leuk vinden, mag hopen dat we het weer van Hockenheim krijgen daar in de Ardennen.

Dat klopt, échte coureurs houden van een écht rijderscircuit.
by the way, ik las elders dat Lance Stroll absoluut geen fan is van Spa Francorchamps!

Het is nu eenmaal onmogelijk dat er in de F1 alleen maar topcoureurs rondrijden, zoveel zijn er simpelweg niet. Maar die coureurs die er wel rondrijden hebben wel hun superlicentie gehaald. En Lance Stroll laat zo af en toe best wel leuke dingen zien en dat in een auto die bepaald geen topper is.

Ja Eau Rouge is met iedere auto vol gas te doen. Het is Raidillon die de uitdaging is.

Eau Rouge is de kleine knip onderaan de heuvel die naar links gaat, want deze bocht gaat over de rivier Eau Rouge. De stijlen heuvelbocht heet eigenlijk Raidillon.

  Eigenlijk moet je gewoon een geniale weerman in dienst hebben die 100 % zeker weet dat als de race 2 minuten bezig is het keihard gaat regenen.En dan gewoon een heel zacht kwali rondje rijden op regenbanden :p
