Sebastian Vettel: "Ferrari niet snel genoeg om race te winnen"

Voor de Grand Prix van België was Ferrari op voorhand al de favoriet en dat was duidelijk na de vrijdag in Spa. Ferrari heeft al meerdere keren op de vrijdag de snelste tijden gereden. Ook dit keer was de Scuderia dominant op de vrijdag, maar Vettel heeft zijn twijfels of dat ook tijdens de race is.

Volgens Vettel kan alles beter, maar het is volgens de Duitser pas vrijdag. "We zijn al vaker de snelste geweest op vrijdag dus daar kan ik niets uit concluderen, het is pas vrijdag. De auto voelde best oké maar het moet nog wel wat beter. Het is maar een vrijdag, dus alles is nog mogelijk", aldus de Duitser tegen GPToday.net "We zullen het zien wie morgen de snelste is, dan pas kan je zeggen wie echt de snelste is."

De race is langer dan één rondje

De 32-jarige coureur was blij om weer te mogen rijden in de bolide na de zomerstop. De rechte stukken zien er goed uit volgens Vettel, maar op de tragere stukken valt nog veel te verbeteren. "De auto voelt goed aan op de rechte stukken. Het lijkt erop dat we dichtbij Mercedes en Red Bull zitten. We moeten nog wel werken aan de auto, vooral in sector twee daar valt nog veel te winnen. De race is meer dan één ronde dus de racepace zal bepalend zijn. We hebben vandaag wat anders geprobeerd dan wat de anderen deden. De longruns zagen er goed uit, maar nogmaals het is pas vrijdag. In racepace zijn we nog niet goed genoeg, echter ziet de kwalificatieronde er wel heel goed uit."

Sebastian Vettel verwacht wel dat hij samen met Charles Leclerc mee kan gaan doen aan het gevecht voor pole position. "Ik denk dat we de juiste snelheid wel hebben voor de kwalificatie, maar we missen gewoon de racepace. Zoals ik al zei is het niet de eerste keer dat we snel lijken. Waarschijnlijk zullen we morgen in de derde vrije training ook snel zijn. We zullen zien wat de kwalificatie gaat brengen. Ik denk wel dat Leclerc en ik mee kunnen doen voor de eerste plek. Ik lach en ik ben vrolijk, vooral omdat ik terug in de auto ben."

  Gelukkig is het inmiddels Zaterdag, maar dat zal ik jullie morgenochtend voor alle zekerheid nog wel een keer vertellen zodat er absoluut geen miscommunicatie kan plaatsvinden over welke dag het nu weer is. Zondagmiddag is trouwens de race, maar ook dat zal ik Zondagmorgen, als reminder, nog wel ff aanstippen zodat jullie die absoluut niet missen.

Gewoon een hele eerlijke rijder. En nu hij dit zegt krijg ik wel vertrouwen in de race. Daar zijn ze te pakken. Mercedes is nog even afwachten maar die staan er wel weer hoor.

Q3 wordt vast erg spannend... Max (RB) spelen de underdog , Mercedes ,na ja, hoef ik niet uit te leggen dat die er morgen gewoon weer staan... Is Ferrari dit weekend echt zo snel als voorspeld wordt door veel experts....

  Ja ze zijn snel. Maar dat komt puur door de motor/afstelling.
  
  Ik zag vanmiddag dat rondje van Max en in de eerste sector liep hij 0.700 achter. na de 2e sector was het nog maar 0.017. In de laatste sector verloor hij niet heel veel. Wat ook vreemd is omdat dat ook gassen is.
  
  Ik kan er nog niet echt mijn hand opleggen. Morgen zien we het wel.
