'Ericsson geïrriteerd dat hij in België niet voor Alfa Romeo mocht rijden'

Marcus Ericsson miste afgelopen weekend de IndyCar-race in Portland om als reserve van Alfa Romeo aanwezig te zijn bij de Belgische Grand Prix. Dat hij daar niet in actie kwam, maakte de Zweed volgens Schmidt Peterson Motorsport-eigenaar Sam Schmidt behoorlijk pissig.

Ericsson miste de voorlaatste race van het lopende IndyCar-seizoen om de race op Spa-Francorchamps bij te wonen. Alfa Romeo lichtte hem in dat zijn diensten mogelijk nodig waren tijdens de race door de Ardennen, nadat Kimi Raikkonen tijdens de zomerstop een kleine blessure opliep. De Fin was echter fit genoeg om te racen, waardoor Ericsson vanaf de zijlijn toe moest kijken. Conor Daly nam zijn plek bij SPM in.

"Ik weet niet wat er echt gebeurd is in België, want mij werd verteld dat Raikkonen het hele weekend uitgeschakeld was", vertelde Schmidt aan Autosport. "Dat is waarom ze Marcus nodig hadden, maar dan gaat hij daarheen en krijgt hij de kans niet. Hij was redelijk pissig, want hij wilde hier graag zijn en hij presteerde recent sterk. Wij waren dus ook teleurgesteld. We wilden ze een dienst bewijzen en het is geen groot probleem - hij staat slechts zeventiende in het kampioenschap, en wij wilden aardig zijn."

Timing volgens Ericsson niet in zijn voordeel

Volgend seizoen bundelt SPM haar krachten met McLaren, waarna het verder gaat als McLaren Arrow SP. James Hinchcliffe werd afgelopen weekend als eerste coureur van het team aangekondigd. Ericsson vecht echter nog voor zijn plek op de grid in de IndyCar en het missen van een race kwam hem daarom niet goed uit.

"Ik race voor een nieuw contract voor volgend jaar en iedere keer dat je in actie komt, is het een kans om te laten zien wat je kan. Natuurlijk is het dus niet optimaal, maar er was zo'n reële kans dat ik dit weekend kon racen, dat de keuze voor mij gemaakt werd om op Spa te zijn. Kimi en het team zeiden dat het erg onzeker was of hij kon racen. Het is niet optimaal voor mij, maar soms loopt het zo."

Inderdaad wel een vreemd verhaal eigenlijk, laat je zo'n jongen helemaal naar België komen.
En Marcus had Max bij de start wellicht wél de ruimte gegeven ;)

oei en Marcus moet je niet pissig hebben.......
Inderdaad wel een vreemd verhaal eigenlijk, laat je zo'n jongen helemaal naar België komen.
En Marcus had Max bij de start wellicht wél de ruimte gegeven ;)

  Marcus had deze race gewoon mit zwei vingers in die näse gewonnen gewoon.
  Het Indy car niveau is toch velen malen hoger als F1 .
  Beetje de zaterdag amateurs tegen de Champions League.

  Marcus had puree gemaakt van die F1 mannetjes, dat uitgesmeerd over een knäckebröd, en lekker opgegeten, met de kruimels nog in z'n mondhoeken zou hij op de hoogste trede van het podium gestaan hebben.

Tja, dat hoort er nou eenmaal bij als je derde coureur bent van een team. Als je niet wilt dat dit gebeurt, dan zul je harde keuzes moeten maken waar je je carrière wilt gaan voortzetten.

  Tja, als er verteld word dat Kimi te geblesseerd is om te rijden en hij zijn race in Portland ervoor weggeeft kan ik me heel goed voorstellen dat hij pissed is, zou iedereen zijn denk ik.
  Vooral omdat Kimi vooraf al te kennen gaf dat er niets aan de hand was en dat hij niets begreep van alle ophef, nu heeft Marcus het hele weekend daar voor joker rondgelopen, daarvoor is hij niet gekomen.
  Dan had ie veel liever in Amerika gebleven en daar wel kunnen racen, dus ik begrijp het heel goed.
