Renault had Formule 2-programma Hubert voor 2020 al rond

Renault had al een plan uitgestippeld voor Anthoine Hubert voor het seizoen 2020. De Fransman zou komend jaar wederom in de Formule 2 uitkomen, zo maakte de Franse renstal bekend.

Hubert werd in 2018 kampioen in de GP3 Series en promoveerde voor 2019 naar de Formule 2. Hij won twee races, voordat hij zaterdag bij een noodlottig ongeval betrokken raakte. Hij overleed aan de verwondingen die hij bij de crash met Juan Manuel Correa opliep. Naast Formule 2-coureur was Hubert echter ook onderdeel van het opleidingsprogramma van Renault.

Mia Sharizman, hoofd van de Renault Sport Academy, vertelde dat de contracten al getekend waren om Hubert ook in 2019 nog een jaar in de Formule 2 te laten rijden. "Het was het zwaarste weekend voor de Academy en voor mij persoonlijk. Iedereen in de Academy keek tegen Anthoine op als de richtlijn voor hoe je jezelf op en naast de baan moet gedragen. Hij was nederig, maar snel, en hij was zorgzaam, maar toch gefocust op de beste zijn."

"Hij hielp de jongere coureurs in de Academy en voltooide desondanks met maximale inzet zijn eigen trainingsprogramma. Anthoine bracht de laatste week van zijn leven door met de jongens van de Academy op trainingskamp in de Pyreneeën. Hij was degene die me overtuigde dat het goed voor iedereen was en hij wilde dit samen met zijn collega-coureurs bereiken, omdat het een 'once in a lifetime'-ervaring was voor iedereen. Dat is Anthoine - altijd denkend aan anderen."

"Anthoine maakte goede progressie in de Academy, waar we zijn F2-programma voor 2020 al rond hadden. Het is een groot verlies voor ons, omdat hij ook belangrijk was in de ontwikkeling van het F1-team. Het wordt lastig om door te gaan, maar Anthoine wilde dat iedereen in de Academy zijn doelen haalde en de beste versie van zichzelf was. Er zijn races en kampioenschappen die gewonnen moeten worden."

Het is gewoon triest en onderstreept dat veiligheid weliswaar nooit voor lief genomen mag worden maar dat hetzelfde geldt voor het leven an sich.
Nog een paar weken en dan denkt, behalve zijn geliefden, niemand meer aan hem. Zo gaat dat met de dood. Dat maakt het ook altijd zo rauw.

  Zeker triest maar in iedere sport kan wat gebeuren . Laatst die wielrenner Lambrechts valt met zijn hoofd op een betonnen duiker en overlijdt. Met Antoinne was ook een ongeluk waar eigenlijk niemand iets aan kan doen

  Ik vond de bewoording van Mol in de voorbeschouwing dan ook precies raak. De sport is nooit 100% veilig te krijgen. Zolang er geracet wordt is er een risico. Een risico wat er bij hoort en iedereen vrijwillig accepteert!

Ik had enkele maanden geleden ook al gelezen dat Abiteboul in 2021 een juniorrijder in de F1 wagen wilde zetten dus dat zou dan zeker Hubert zijn geweest, heel erg tragisch allemaal.

  Mojito... Punt A... Abiteboul heeft gewoon gelijk daarin nu. Ocon was een Junior uit Enstone. Idd erg tragisch, maar de kans dat Hubert in 2021 bij Renault zou rijden is minder groot dan dat Vettel stopt in 2021.
