Bottas boos op Hamilton: "Inhaalactie in outlap verpestte mijn laatste ronde"

Het verloop van de kwalificatie zorgde voor frustratie bij Valtteri Bottas. De Mercedes-coureur is van mening dat teamgenoot Lewis Hamilton zijn laatste run in Q3 verpestte door een akkefietje in de outlap.

Bottas kwam in Singapore niet verder dan de vijfde startpositie. De vijfvoudig Grand Prix-winnaar was daar vanzelfsprekend niet tevreden mee, maar zelf vermoedt hij dat de problemen al ontstonden tijdens de outlap voor zijn laatste run. Hamilton kwam in dat rondje aan hem voorbij, waardoor Bottas opnieuw vaart moest minderen en zijn banden niet meer op temperatuur waren. Dat was volgens de Fin cruciaal.

"Er waren veel auto's tijdens de eerste run. Het hele weekend moesten we goede outlaps hebben om de banden aan de praat te krijgen, maar dat lukte alleen in Q1. De eerste run in Q2 was ook prima, maar daarna zat er altijd verkeer in de weg. Daarna was de laatste run redelijk rommelig. Het was niet het plan om posities te wisselen. Ik verlaagde het tempo omdat de Red Bull voor mij een gat probeerde te creëren."

Akkefietje 'intern besproken' bij Mercedes

"Ik denk niet dat Lewis wist dat er een auto voor me zat, hij dacht waarschijnlijk dat ik voor de lol afremde. Dat zag hij dus niet goed en hij kwam voorbij, waardoor ik opnieuw vaart moest minderen. We hebben dat intern besproken om ervoor te zorgen dat het niet nogmaals gebeurt. Dit was natuurlijk niet het plan", vertelde Bottas na de kwalificatie tegenover onder andere GPToday.net.

Hamilton verzekerde zich in de kwalificatie van de tweede startpositie, wat hem in een goede uitgangspositie brengt om de marge in het kampioenschap te vergroten. Bottas moet in de resterende zeven races een achterstand van 63 punten zien te overbruggen, maar vooralsnog lijkt de regerend wereldkampioen de beste papieren te hebben in Singapore om zijn voorsprong uit te breiden.

Hoe kut het ook is om te zeggen, Bottas komt gewoon tekort.
Ik vraag me af wanneer Bottas zijn tanden laat zien want het is allemaal te braaf en laat zich het kaas van het brood vreten.

Als je zoveel achterstand hebt zal je toch heel aggresief moeten vechten en vooral nu want Hamilton staat toch al een kilometer voor dus die heeft meer te verliezen dan Bottas.

  Ja, hij komt tekort maar hoeft ook niet te winnen. Daarvoor hebben ze Lewis. Bottas heeft maar 1 opdracht, na Lewis op P2 in het WK finishen. En dat doet hij wel. Ocon past niet in die strategie. Toto heeft voor 2021 vervolgens maar 1 echte wens: Max binnenhalen.

  makkelijk om achteraf te zeggen. Je verwacht dat je teamgenoot zich aan de afspraken houdt, op het moment dat ie dat niet blijkt te doen kun je weinig doen. Maar in de toekomst zal ie er misschien nog eens aan terug denken. Ik vond Bottas bv in Silverstone ook al heel agressief verdedigen, de tijd dat ie voor Hamilton aan de kant ging is nu toch echt wel geweest denk ik.

Het is natuurijk niet zo fraai dat Bottas tegen de staart al zijn concurrenten voor het vice-kampioenschap aankijkt. Desalniettemin verwacht ik dat de Mercedes de snelheid heeft om op het podium te eindigen.

Bottas.... wat jammer. Je zou zeker een magistrale ronde neerzetten, waarbij de hele F1 wereld nog over zou praten zoals je dat elke week doet.
