De start van de Grand Prix van Singapore kende twee grote verliezers in Carlos Sainz en Nico Hülkenberg. De coureurs kwamen met elkaar in aanraking in de vijfde bocht, wat bij beide mannen een lekke band veroorzaakte.

De start verliep niet zo chaotisch als die van 2017, maar toch gebeurde er het een en ander in de eerste ronde. In de top zes gebeurde er niet zo veel, maar in het midden- en achterveld kwamen her en der wel een aantal coureurs met elkaar in aanraking.

De start met onboards en Ricciardo raakt voorvleugel Russell

George Russell kwam in aanraking met Daniel Ricciardo. De Australiër kwam er genadig vanaf zonder schade, terwijl de Williams-coureur de pits moest bezoeken met schade aan zijn voorvleugel.

Sainz krijgt een lekke band en McLaren-team klungelt met pitstop

Carlos Sainz had een prima start, maar kreeg een lekke band. Toen hij naar binnen ging voor de bandenwissel, klungelde het team met de rear jack.
