'Sean Bratches stopt na 2019 als commercieel directeur Formule 1'

De Formule 1 zal waarschijnlijk op zoek moeten naar een nieuwe commercieel directeur. Volgens RACER zal Sean Bratches, die momenteel invulling geeft aan die rol, na 2019 opstappen.

Sinds Liberty Media begin 2017 de Formule 1 overnam van CVC Capital Partners staan er drie mannen aan het hoofd van de sport: Chase Carey is de CEO en voorzitter, Ross Brawn is de directeur die zich bezig houdt met de zaken rond het racen zelf en Bratches is dus verantwoordelijk voor de commerciële zaken. De Amerikaan heeft de aandeelhouders echter geïnformeerd dat hij na 2019 zal stoppen.

Voordat Bratches in de Formule 1 kwam werken, was hij 27 jaar werkzaam bij het Amerikaanse sportnetwerk ESPN, waar hij onder andere tien jaar lang de Executive Vice President van sales en marketing was. Begin 2017 voegde hij zich dus bij het team van Liberty Media dat de gang van zaken in de Formule 1 ging overzien.

In zijn rol als commercieel directeur heeft de 58-jarige Bratches een aantal nieuwe televisiedeals gesloten. Zo gingen de uitzendrechten in de Verenigde Staten van NBC Sports naar ESPN. Daarnaast zorgde hij er met Vietnam en Nederland voor dat er in 2020 twee nieuwe races op de kalender staan, terwijl een aantal andere deals verlengd werden. Tevens is hij een van de krachten achter de fanfestivals, die een aantal keren per jaar rond de Grands Prix georganiseerd worden.

Volgens RACER heeft de Formule 1 nog geen vervanger voor Bratches op het oog en wordt er gekeken of de huidige commerciële structuur behouden kan blijven. Op de andere vlakken is er volgens de website meer zekerheid, want zowel Carey als Brawn zouden hun respectievelijke rollen vasthouden.

Eindelijk! De vrouw van dit individu heeft ervoor gezorgd dat we geen Gridgirls meer hebben bij de F1.
Hoezo onder de plak! Hoop nog steeds dat ze in Zandvoort weer aanwezig zullen zijn. Hoort gewoon bij de F!!

Er ging een paar maanden geleden het gerucht de ronde dat Toto Wolff de vervanger van Bratches zou gaan worden. We wachten af..

Offtopic!! Zelfs geen F1 maar wellicht toch interessant genoeg gezien de eerdere reacties omtrent het F2 ongeval op Spa;

Juan Manuel Correa (20), de Formule 2-coureur die betrokken raakte bij het dodelijke ongeval van Anthoine Hubert, heeft een 17 (!) uur durende operatie aan zijn rechterbeen met succes achter de rug.
De doktoren noemen de ingreep geslaagd, al wacht de Amerikaan nog wel een lang en complex revalidatieproces.

n een donderdag vrijgegeven verklaring spreekt Correa voor het eerst sinds het ongeval in België: „De laatste weken waren extreem zwaar. Zwaarder dan alles wat ik ooit eerder fysiek of mentaal voor mijn kiezen heb gekregen. Ik ben me bewust van mijn toekomst wat betreft het herstel van mijn benen. Vooral omtrent mijn rechterbeen heerst nog veel onzekerheid”, vertelt de Amerikaan.

Hij vervolgt: „Ook besef ik maar al te goed dat mijn fysieke herstel extreem lang gaat duren en gecompliceerd gaat zijn. Alles wat er gebeurt en gebeurd is, ben ik nog steeds aan het verwerken. Iedereen die me op wat voor manier dan ook heeft gesteund wil ik bedanken. Het immense aantal steunbetuigingen is overweldigend. Jullie aanmoedigingen en positieve berichten hebben echt een verschil gemaakt.”

Correa moest na de operatie van 17 uur drie dagen van cruciaal herstel wachten. „De dagen na de operatie waren stressvol. Hoewel de ingreep als geslaagd werd beschouwd in de operatiekamer, waren de 48 tot 72 uur daarna cruciaal met het oog op de uitkomst van de operatie. Nu, donderdag en meer dan 72 uur later, hebben de artsen vertrouwen in een succesvolle ingreep, ook al wordt de situatie nog steeds nauwgezet geobserveerd. Tijdens de ingreep hebben de artsen meer botmateriaal moeten verwijderen dan ze hadden voorzien en diverse kwesties aan de bloedvaten moeten verhelpen, maar het hoofddoel van de operatie is bereikt.”

De F2-coureur moet de komende weken nog wel meerdere operaties ondergaan. Pas half november wacht eventueel een ontslag uit het ziekenhuis. „Juan Manuel blijft in het ziekenhuis in Londen waar hij over twee weken nog een nieuwe, minder complexe operatie zal ondergaan. De artsen verwachten dat hij over zo’n zes weken het ziekenhuis mag verlaten. Dan zal hij beginnen aan zijn weg naar herstel. Het komende jaar zal bol staan van fysiotherapie, rehabilitatie en corrigerende operaties, met een volledig gebruik van zijn rechtervoet en -enkel als doel”, is ook in de verklaring te lezen.
