Campos reageert op statement Formule 1: "Wij wachten 30 oktober af"

Campos lijkt de strijd om een plekje in de Formule 1 vanaf 2021 niet op te geven. Het team stelt de deadline voor de goedkeuring van nieuwe teams op 30 oktober af te wachten.

Donderdag bracht Campos samen met Monaco Increase Management een verklaring naar buiten waarin de wereld werd voorgesteld aan hun voornemen om in 2021 toe te treden in de Formule 1. Het team heeft al een technisch directeur en een hoofd aerodynamica aangesteld en mikt erop om Alex Palou en Pascal Wehrlein in het eerste seizoen in te zetten als coureurs.

Donderdagavond kwam er een tegenreactie vanuit de Formule 1. De organisatie van de sport verklaarde dat er op dit moment geen serieuze gesprekken gaande zijn met partijen die in 2021 tot de sport toe willen treden. Dat lijkt Campos echter niet te weerhouden van het doel om in dat jaar haar debuut te gaan maken in de Formule 1.

Campos neemt plaats in wachtkamer

Tegenover GPToday.net reageerde een woordvoerder van Campos, dat momenteel onder andere racet in de Formule 2 en Formule 3 en dat dit graag wil blijven doen als het in de Formule 1 zit, dat het team in de wachtkamer plaatsneemt. "Op dit moment kunnen we alleen zeggen dat de FIA op 30 oktober zal bevestigen welke teams in 2021 toe mogen treden tot de Formule 1. Wij zullen geduldig wachten op dit moment."

Campos deed eerder al eens een poging om de Formule 1 binnen te komen. Die poging leverde toen geen succes op: het team kon niet het benodigde geld ophoesten, waarna het team uiteindelijk onder de naam HRT alsnog aantrad in de koningsklasse van de autosport. Na drie weinig succesvolle seizoenen viel het doek voor het financieel instabiele Spaanse team.

De F1 heeft keihard nieuwe teams nodig. Er zijn maar 10 teams, en 20 auto's op de grid is gewoon veel te weinig en dat kan alleen maar erger worden als andere teams omvallen / vertrekken.

Kortom, alles eraan doen om nieuwe teams zoals een Campos binnen te halen. Lijkt me geen rocket science toch?

De F1 heeft keihard nieuwe teams nodig. Er zijn maar 10 teams, en 20 auto's op de grid is gewoon veel te weinig en dat kan alleen maar erger worden als andere teams omvallen / vertrekken.

Kortom, alles eraan doen om nieuwe teams zoals een Campos binnen te halen. Lijkt me geen rocket science toch?

Die Alex Palou kunnen ze vergeten, als hij dit jaar als derde eindigd in de Super Formula heeft hij uit 2018 & 2019 19 superlicentie punten. Daar moeten er dus nog 21 bij, dat staat weer gelijk aan minimaal:

4de eindigen in de F2
2de eindigen in de Indycar
2de eindigen in de Formule E
2de eindigen in het FIA Formule 3 championship (in 2018 werd hij 7de)
2de eindigen in het WEC LMP1
1ste eindigen in het Formula Regional European Championship
1ste eindigen in de Super Formula

Hij zal dus alles uit de kast moeten halen om in 2021 F1 te mogen rijden.

  Andere backing? Introductie budgetlimiet? Zijn wel een paar redenen te bedenken. Neemt niet weg dat het nog steeds extreem moeilijk zal zijn voor een team als Campos om in de F1 te geraken.
