Danner: "Verdwijnen Duitse Grand Prix een ramp voor Duitsland"

Er staan in 2020 22 landen op de kalender van de Formule 1, maar Duitsland ontbreekt op die lijst. Volgens voormalig coureur Christian Danner is dat een ramp voor zijn thuisland.

De FIA is na een stemming in het World Motor Sport Council afgelopen week akkoord gegaan met de kalender van de Formule 1 voor 2020. Deze kalender zal een recordaantal van 22 races omvatten en in vergelijking met 2019 zijn er drie wijzigingen: Vietnam is voor het eerst gastheer van een Grand Prix, Nederland keert na 35 jaar afwezigheid terug en Duitsland verdwijnt van de kalender.

Duitsland was vanaf 1950 bijna onafgebroken op de kalender van de Formule 1 opgenomen: alleen in 1955, 2007, 2015 en 2017 werd er niet gereden in Duitsland. In de laatste twee jaren dat Duitsland niet op de kalender stond, was er nog wel een contract: Hockenheim en de Nürburgring wisselden de race af, maar laatstgenoemde kon in 2015 en 2017 het geld niet ophoesten om de race te organiseren.

Nu is er dus geen contract meer en volgens Danner is dat pijnlijk voor Duitsland. "Dit is een ramp, vertelde de voormalig Formule 1-coureur aan Die Welt. "Als het Barcelona lukt om een Grand Prix te blijven organiseren en als het ook werkt voor Oostenrijk en Nederland, dan vind ik het tenenkrommend om te zien dat we in Duitsland niet in de positie zijn om hetzelfde te doen."

Ja, op de oude layout had je maar 44 ronden, maar dat heeft Spa ook. De oude layout had qua baan en GP gewoon veel meer aanzien dan het Mickey Mouse baantje dat ze er van gemaakt hebben.

    Maar zonder gekheid, ik kijk toch liever naar de Duitse Gp dan naar de Spaanse.

      De Spaande GP heeft vooral het nadeel dat de teams het circuit te goed kennen en het daardoor veel te voorspelbaar is.

      Dat vind ik ook. Nu nog steeds, na al die jaren, snak ik nog terug naar de hoge snelheidsbaan van weleer.'
      De lange rechte stukken (flauw afbuigend naar rechts) afgewisseld met chicanes waarvoor men vol in de ankers moest om daarna weer het volgende rechte stuk op te duiken. Gelukkig hebben ze het slingerende "tribune gedeelte" (hoe noemen ze dat ook alweer?) behouden.

      Overigens moet ik wél even aangeven dat ik de nieuwe hairpin wel kan waarderen.
      Die is dan ook kenmerkend voor het huidige circuit.

    Het blijft bizar dat zo'n groot land met zo'n geschiedenis in de F1 en zo'n grote auto-industrie het niet voor elkaar krijgt een GP te financieren.. Aan de jaartallen valt wel op te maken dat het een probleem is dat is vooral de laatste 10 jaar voordoet..

      Het probleem is dat de Duitsers Mercedes op dit moment niet als echt Duits team zien en dat Vettel kennelijk ook niet het publiek op de been bracht zoals Schumacher deed.

      Ik vraag me af in hoeverre dat aan Mercedes en Vettel te wijten is.

      Zijn de Duitsers ook hun interesse niet vooral verloren door de staat van de sport?

      Ik bedoel... die vette bolides waar in het Schumi tijdperk nog in gereden werd was gewoon waanzin om het bos uit stadion in te zien en horen komen.

      De huidige bolides hebben die glans bij lange na niet meer. Wrllicht dat dat het Duitse publiek ook weg doet blijven.

      In de Schumacher tijd waren er vaak zelfs 2 GP's in Duitsland, die van Duitsland op Hockenheim en die van Luxemburg of Europa op de Nürburgring.

      Wint hij niet dan staat er niks in de kranten ove de F1. (It's a Fact)
