Grand Prix van Japan zal droog en grotendeels zonnig verlopen

De Grand Prix van Japan zal waarschijnlijk onder goede weersomstandigheden verreden worden. De kwalificatie en de race zullen waarschijnlijk plaatsvinden op het moment dat het droog én zonnig is op Suzuka.

Momenteel is Japan nog in de ban van tyfoon Hagibis, die in grote delen van Japan veel overlast heeft veroorzaakt en schade heeft aangericht. Om en nabij Suzuka lijken de gevolgen van de tropische cycloon echter mee te vallen. Het heeft weliswaar hard geregend, maar Hagibis leek in deze regio van Japan niet zo krachtig te hebben toegeslagen als bijvoorbeeld in hoofdstad Tokio.

Als voorzorgsmaatregel besloten Suzuka Circuit en de Formule 1 om alle activiteiten op het circuit van de zaterdag af te blazen, waarbij de kwalificatie van de Formule 1 naar zondag verplaatst werd. Dat lijkt in ieder geval qua weersomstandigheden een goede keuze te zijn: de kwalificatie, die om 10.00 uur Japanse tijd (3.00 uur in Nederland) begint, zal onder een stralende zon verreden worden bij temperaturen van zo'n 22 graden Celsius.

Die omstandigheden blijven vervolgens ook rond de race van 14.10 uur (7.10 uur in Nederland) behouden. De temperatuur zal op dat moment nog iets gestegen zijn, terwijl de windsnelheid afneemt. Voor regen hoeft niet gevreesd te worden: pas op maandag staat er weer neerslag in de weersvoorspellingen voor Suzuka.

Ik had wel zin in weer eens regenrace. Maar inderdaad wel erg prettig dat de schade rondom Suzuka mee valt.
