F1 wil race in Miami aankondigen

Eerder dit jaar werd het duidelijk dat de plannen van Liberty Media voor een race in het centrum van Miami waren doodgebloeid. De Miami Herald meldde dat de verstoring van de stad in Florida "te groot zou zijn". De eigenaar van de F1 bleek echter op zoek naar een alternatieve locatie in Miami. Het Hard Rock Stadium, gelegen ten noorden van Miami Gardens in Miami Gardens, is de locatie waar het moet gaan gebeuren.

"We zijn verheugd om aan te kondigen dat de Formule 1 en het Hard Rock Stadium een principeakkoord hebben bereikt om de allereerste Miami Grand Prix ooit te organiseren," kondigde Tom Garfinkel, CEO van het Hard Rock Stadium en de Miami Dolphins aan. De verklaring werd gezamenlijk uitgegeven met commerciële baas van de Formule 1, Sean Bratches.

Opnieuw verzet tegen F1 in Miami

Net als het eerste Miami-project van F1 zijn er hindernissen. De Miami Herald zei dat zelfs districtscommissaris Barbara Jordan en de burgemeester van Miami, Olivier Gilbert, tegen het plan zijn.

Bratches is echter zelfverzekerd. Het circuit zou worden gefinancierd door Stephen Ross, eigenaar van het Hard Rock Stadium, waarbij de race voornamelijk op stadionterreinen zou worden gehouden.

"Het hosten van de race op de stadionlocatie beperkt het werk dat moet worden gedaan in de openbare straten, wat zeer weinig hinder betekent voor de omliggende bewoners en bedrijven terwijl we ons voorbereiden op de race", zei Bratches.

  Dude, de Amerikanen hebben een bak miljarden betaald... Het is bizznizz 101 dat het terugverdiend moet worden, dus de 25 races per seizoen gaan er gewoon komen.

  Leuk dat ze een bak geld hebben uitgegeven, maar dat is nog geen reden om van hun probleem het probleem van F1 te maken.
