Formule 1 laat Twitch Mexicaanse Grand Prix streamen in beperkt aantal landen

Formule 1-fans in Duitsland, Luxemburg, Zwitserland, Denemarken, Noorwegen en Zweden kunnen komend weekend gratis naar de Mexicaanse Grand Prix kijken. De Formule 1 heeft daarvoor een deal gesloten met Twitch.

Twitch is een streamingplatform dat tegenwoordig vooral inzet op het uitzenden van livestreams van games. Ook worden er regelmatig Esports-toernooien op de website uitgezonden. Komend weekend zal echter ook de Formule 1 via Twitch te zien zijn. De sport sloot een contract met het streamingplatform om alle vrije trainingen, de kwalificatie en de race in zes landen gratis uit te zenden via de website en app.

Via Twitch kunnen de kijkers dus alle sessies live volgen, maar er komt ook een interactief spelelement om de hoek kijken, zo blijkt uit het persbericht dat de Formule 1 de wereld in stuurde. De gebruikers van de site en app kunnen de prestaties van de coureurs gedurende een segment van 10 minuten voorspellen. "Deze voorspellingen worden dan gerankt en op basis van hun nauwkeurigheid vertoond, wat een interactief spelelement toevoegt aan de uitzending."

Voorlopig zal de Grand Prix van Mexico de enige race zijn die live uitgezonden wordt op Twitch: het contract tussen de sport en het platform is slechts voor één race. "Deze deal laat wederom zien dat de F1 blijft innoveren met haar uitzendingen, gebruikmakend van Twitch's unieke technologie, tools voor betrokkenheid van fans en de community om nieuwe fans op nieuwe plaatsen te bereiken, naast het traditionele tv-publiek."

Verrassend is het niet dat de Formule 1 gekozen heeft voor een samenwerking met Twitch in plaats van bijvoorbeeld YouTube. Ten eerste is Twitch onderdeel van Amazon, waarmee de sport al samenwerkt voor onder andere een reeks grafieken over de inhaalkans en de prestatie van de auto. Daarnaast biedt Twitch dus meer mogelijkheden om interactieve handelingen uit te voeren met het publiek.
