Alexander Albon ziet 'goede kansen' voor eerste podiumplaats in Mexico

Alexander Albon stond in zijn korte Formule 1-carrière nog nooit op het podium, maar de huidige coureur van Red Bull Racing ziet echter wel een goede kans op eremetaal in Mexico.

Red Bull Racing zal de race op het Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez aanvangen vanaf de posities vier en vijf. Dat hadden echter de posities 1 en 5 kunnen zijn, als Max Verstappen in zijn laatste kwalificatieronde van zijn gas was gegaan bij de gele vlaggen in de laatste bocht. Desondanks is het duidelijk dat de snelheid erin zit bij Red Bull Racing en Albon ziet dan ook kansen op het podium.

"Ik denk het. Ik denk dat we de snelheid hebben, maar we moeten kijken of we erdoor kunnen komen - dat is het plan. Dit is duidelijk het beste weekend die ik met de auto gehad sinds ik bij het team ben gekomen. Ik wil niet zeggen dat ik voor het podium ga, maar ik denk dat de auto ertoe in staat is. Ik zoek mijn stabiliteit nog. Ik wil natuurlijk op een gegeven moment meestrijden, maar het is een goede kans."

Niet helemaal tevreden met Q2 en Q3

Albon was na de kwalificatie niet geheel tevreden met zijn ronden in Q2 en Q3. Dat was volgens de Britse Thai het gevolg van de gebeurtenissen tijdens de tweede vrije training, toen hij al vroeg in de sessie crashte. "Natuurlijk was het niet ideaal dat ik op een nieuw circuit beperkte tijd in de auto had, maar ik voelde me richting Q1 best goed. Mijn ronde in Q1 was ook sterk, maar daarna zwakte het een beetje af."

"In Q2 en Q3 had ik het wat lastiger met de auto, maar de voorkant lag goed op de weg. Het was een van deze dingen. Zodra de baan sneller wordt en je net iets meer pusht, glipte het een beetje uit mijn handen. Dat is zo ongeveer wat er gebeurt met een gebrek aan tijd op het asfalt. We konden natuurlijk niet te veel dingen veranderen of het onbekende verkennen, dus dat was het."

Ik begrijp dat voortdurende gehak ook niet. Albon heeft meer vertrouwen in de auto dan Gasly, doet er meer goeds mee dan Gasly, doet niet zo vaak stomme dingen als Gasly én durft gewoon aan te vallen als er kans is. De auto misschien wel maar alexander niet . Ik snap ook nog steeds niet hoe hij kan praten over een goed weekeind als hij zijn monteurs alleen maar met extra werk opzadelt . Ben benieuwd hoe die er over denken .

Maar men praat hem hier liefst uit de auto alsof ze hem dit seizoen al kwijt willen. Willen jullie echt zo graag Hulkenberg in de auto? Kans is bijna nul, alleen rijder die gelieerd zijn aan RBR of Honda krijgen een kans.

Als de Red Bull heel goed gaat zou het kunnen.. Maar voor Verstappen eindigen (zonder incidenten) kan hij echt vergeten, dus hij zal dan sowieso Hamilton en een Ferrari voorbij moeten..
