Lewis Hamilton blij na knappe zege: "Hadden lastigere race verwacht"

Op zijn zesde wereldtitel moet hij nog minimaal een week wachten, maar Lewis Hamilton zal desalniettemin met veel plezier terugkijken op de zege die hij vandaag in Mexico pakte. De Brit haalde, nadat hij bij de start nog een akkefietje had met Max Verstappen, waar beide coureurs met minimale schade vanaf wisten te komen, vanaf P3 met een betere strategie de beide Ferrari’s in. Mede door uitstekend bandenmanagement wist hij op knappe wijze de 83^ste zege uit zijn carrière binnen te slepen.

De Brit liet zich na de race over de boordradio al lovend uit over zijn team en droeg zijn zege op aan race-engineer Peter Bonnington die door een medische ingreep niet in Mexico aanwezig kon zijn. Nadat de Brit wat donuts had gemaakt voor het uitzinnige publiek in het Foro Sol stadion was Hamilton uitgelaten tijdens de podiuminterviews met Jenson Button: “We moeten eerst natuurlijk dit geweldige publiek bedanken. Daarnaast moet ik vooral ook Mercedes bedanken, want we hebben keihard gewerkt en zijn gefocust gebleven. We dachten dat het een hele lastige race ging worden voor ons. Toen bleek ook nog dat ik na de start redelijk wat schade aan mijn auto had, maar ik hield mijn hoofd naar beneden. Het leek echt een enorm lange tweede stint, maar ik ben echt dankbaar voor vandaag.”

Lewis was niet heel erg teleurgesteld dat hij nog een weekje moest wachten op het binnenhalen van zijn zesde wereldtitel: "Daar lig ik niet zo wakker van, ik houd van racen en bekijk het race voor race. Deze race wilde ik al lange tijd winnen en het is altijd erg lastig voor ons geweest, dus ik ben enorm dankbaar voor de kans en de auto die ik vandaag ter beschikking had."

  Ik weet wel zeker dat Max zoiets niet denkt, maar na het zien van de schade bij Ham was het duidelijk dat ze elkaar wel degelijk geraakt hadden, dacht eerst van niet.
  Maar dan nog, Max was voor Ham toen ze de bocht ingingen, een race incident met helaas Max weer als slachtoffer, daar had hij nooit iets aan kunnen veranderen, Bottas was weer een heel ander verhaal, dat leek me meer een aanslag, weer was Max er al voorbij.

Nederlander heeft weer een lesje geleerd als het erop aan komt gaat niemand meer uit de weg voor hem ,krediet is op .dus volgend jaar wordt het nog erger tussen de drie teams

Ik gun het Lewis maar hij hoefde vandaag niet eens te vechten voor P1 (okay, bij de start met Max effe) Ferrari tactiek pakt weer eens negatief uit, Botas daar heb je weer eens geen kind aan en een Albon die voor spek en bonen mee doet.....

  Haha, ik stuurde idd iets soortgelijks naar een maat van me! Lewis zat te mopperen omdat hij zijn best moest gaan doen, maar dat is idd een indicatie dat hij een serieuze kans heeft op de overwinning!
