Team Lotus blij: "Maleisië met afstand ons beste optreden"

Team Lotus kon in de Maleisische Grand Prix eindelijk de gevestigde teams enigszins bijhouden. Heikki Kovalainen finishte vlak achter Scuderia Toro Rosso-duo Sebastien Buemi en Jaime Alguersuari. Technisch directeur Mike Gascoyne is in zijn nopjes met dat resultaat.

Dit was met afstand ons beste optreden tot nu toe, begint hij tegenover Autosport. Tevens hebben we een kleine stap gezet met de betrouwbaarheid. De coureurs hadden het gevoel dat we met iets meer tijd in het weekend het gat naar de gevestigde teams, nu nog maar een paar tienden, hadden kunnen dichten. Als we Jaime Alguersuari hadden kunnen inhalen, dan hadden we voor het eerst iemand van de gevestigde orde op snelheid verslagen. Slechts zes auto's zetten ons op een ronde, we waren competitief in de middenmoot. We moesten ook echt rustig aan doen om ons in te laten halen door de kop. Dit is een grote stap vooruit voor dit team. Na Australië waren sommigen misschien sceptisch, hopelijk hebben we ze hiermee overtuigd.
