Hamilton en Rossi wisselen 9 december van materiaal in Valencia

Lewis Hamilton zal in december een langgekoesterde wens in vervulling zien gaan. De vijfvoudig wereldkampioen zal na afloop van het Formule 1-seizoen de kans krijgen om de MotoGP-motor van Valentino Rossi te besturen.

Mercedes en Yamaha zijn overeengekomen om op 9 december in Valencia bijeen te komen om Hamilton en Rossi van materiaal te laten wisselen, zo meldt Autosport. Dat gebeurde met hulp van gemeenschappelijke sponsor Monster Energy, de drankjesmaker bij wie zowel Hamilton als Rossi een eigen variant van het energiedrankje gekregen heeft.

De Formule 1-coureur van Mercedes staat bekend als een groot liefhebber van motoren en hij heeft ook al ervaring op een racemachine: vorig jaar testte (en crashte) Hamilton een Yamaha-machine uit het World Superbike. In december zal de Brit op de Yamaha M1 van Rossi plaatsnemen tijdens een test op het Circuit Ricardo Tormo, terwijl Rossi op die dag in de Formule 1-bolide van Hamilton zal plaatsnemen.

Daar waar Hamilton voor het eerst op een MotoGP-machine gaat rijden, heeft Rossi al een schat aan ervaring in Formule 1-auto's. Tussen 2004 en 2010 werkte de Italiaanse MotoGP-legende meerdere tests af voor Ferrari, waarbij hij indruk wist te maken op Michael Schumacher. Rossi werd zelfs gevraagd om Felipe Massa te vervangen na het ongeluk van de Braziliaan in Hongarije in 2009, maar dat aanbod sloeg hij af.

De afgelopen jaren hebben meer MotoGP-kampioenen de kans gekregen om een Formule 1-auto te testen. In 2016 kreeg Jorge Lorenzo van Monster Energy een rit in de Mercedes W05 uit 2014 cadeau, terwijl afgelopen jaar regerend kampioen Marc Marquez en Honda-teamgenoot Dani Pedrosa de mogelijkheid kregen om een Red Bull-bolide uit 2012 uit te proberen.

  Ik denk de 2018 of 2017 variant. Die zijn na Abu Dhabi toch vrijwel waardeloos om op voort te bouwen qua 2020 na die vleugelgedoe in 2019. De 2019 auto zal direct na Abu Dhabi naar engeland vliegen om als vergelijk te dienen voor 2020.

  theoretisch zou alleen de 2015 of misschien 2016 auto kunnen aangezien ze al 3 jaar niet meer mogen racen.
  
  Als ik bij bijv Max verstappen kijk staat nu dacht ik de RB12 in de winkel.

  Voor Hamilton idd. Voor het Italiaans meesterwerk met de naam Rossi zit er geen enkel risico aan verbonden. De man heeft tijden in een Ferrari gereden nog zonder race ervaring binnen een seconde van der weltmeister. Ferrari deed meerdere pogingen om Rossi te verleiden tot een officieel racestoeltje maar de man houdt veel te veel van zijn eigen sport. Iedereen die zich verdiept in de inmiddels 40 jarige racewonder weet dat qua talenten hem niks ontbreekt om competitief te zijn in auto's.

  Ik ben bekend met de carriere van meneer Rossi en ik weet ook dat zijn verrichtingen voor Ferrari geen onverdeeld succes waren.
  
  Voor Hamilton is deze test slechts een kans op blessures, voor Mercedes zullen de bevindingen van Rossi nauwelijks van toegevoegdebwaarde zijn.
