ESPN blijft tot eind 2022 Formule 1 uitzenden in Verenigde Staten

De Formule 1 heeft een nieuwe deal gesloten met ESPN. Tot eind 2022 zal het Amerikaanse sportnetwerk de Formule 1 uitzenden in de Verenigde Staten.

De nieuwe deal tussen ESPN en de Formule 1 is eigenlijk een allesomvattend pakket. Het zendernetwerk zal naast de Formule 1 ook de rechten krijgen van de Formule 2, Formule 3 en de Porsche Supercup. Alle races zullen zonder reclame uitgezonden worden en daarbij maakt ESPN gebruik van de live-uitzendingen van Sky Sports. Amerikaanse fans krijgen dus commentaar van David Croft en Martin Brundle.

ESPN nam begin 2018 de uitzendrechten van de Formule 1 in de VS over van NBC. Sindsdien is het aantal kijkers in het land sterk gegroeid. Het gemiddelde kijkerspubliek in 2017 is zo'n 671.000 per race, 24 procent meer dan in het laatste jaar bij NBC in 2017. Mogelijk dat de Netflix-serie Drive to Survive, die begin dit jaar uitkwam, daar een rol in speelde.

Managing director Sean Bratches van de F1 is blij met de groei van de kijkcijfers in de VS. "De VS is een van onze belangrijkste focuspunten voor groei en ESPN kent en begrijpt het Amerikaanse sportpubliek als geen ander. De combinatie van hun toegewijde coverage en het geweldige spektakel van de Formule 1 is een perfecte samenwerking voor ons om verder te bouwen op onze recente successen met het Amerikaanse publiek."

  joh trekt het je niet aan. Mannen voetbal is niet popular in de VS. Alleen vrouwen voetbal , trek een jurkje aan en doe niet zo zuur

Goed nieuws , regelmatig in de VS een race gekeken via ESPN, goed dat dat blijft.
