Masi en FIA proberen 'grijze gebied' rond uitdelen straffen te verkleinen

Het wordt voor de coureurs steeds duidelijker waar de grens ligt tussen 'de coureurs laten racen' en het uitdelen van straffen voor incidenten. Dat stelt wedstrijdleider Michael Masi tegenover onder andere GPToday.net.

Eerder dit jaar groeide de kritiek op de bemoeizucht van de FIA bij kleine incidenten tijdens gevechten tussen coureurs. Vooral na de Canadese Grand Prix, waar Sebastian Vettel de winst moest inleveren door een discutabele tijdstraf. Daarna kozen de wedstrijdleiding en de FIA ervoor om de coureurs vrijer te laten racen. Dat riep echter een aantal vragen op over hoe ver de rijders kunnen gaan.

Naar mate er meer races verreden zijn en meer incidenten beoordeeld zijn door de stewards, weten de coureurs volgens Masi nu steeds beter wat er wel en niet kan. "Het begint duidelijker en duidelijker te worden. Het is iets wat we besproken hebben met de coureurs en dat zullen we blijven doen. Ik probeer het grijze gebied rond deze zaken te verkleinen. We werken er met zijn allen samen aan om dat voor elkaar te krijgen en de coureurs zijn het daar ook mee eens."

'Nooit twee blije coureurs gezien na uitdelen straf'

Voorbeelden van zaken die niet door de beugel kunnen, zijn de incidenten waarbij Daniil Kvyat in de laatste races betrokken was. De Rus deelde in Mexico en de Verenigde Staten in de laatste ronde tikken uit aan Nico Hülkenberg en Sergio Perez, waarna hij in beide instanties een tijdstraf kreeg en zijn punten kwijtraakte. De Rus was daar enorm verbolgen over.

Volgens Masi is het heel begrijpelijk dat een coureur het niet eens is met een straf en dus toont hij ook begrip voor de kritiek van Kvyat, ondanks het feit dat de straf volgens de wedstrijdleider terecht is. "Ik heb nog nooit meegemaakt dat er twee mensen bij een incident betrokken zijn, waarbij een van hen een straf krijgt en de ander niet, en dat er niemand ontevreden is."

Michael Masi is in mijn beleving nog geen aanwinst voor de F1. Voor mij zijn de regels in ieder geval niet duidelijker geworden. Als het allemaal zo duidelijk zou zijn begrijp ik ook niet waarom er telkens zoveel tijd nodig is om een beslissing te nemen over een straf.

Dat hoor ik dan toch liever van de coureurs zelf..

  Helemaal mee eens. Als ik dit hoor van Michael Masi en niet van de coureurs ga ik er juist aan twijfelen. Voor mij als kijker is het dit seizoen in ieder geval niet duidelijker geworden.

  Hoezo is het dit jaar ook maar enigszins duidelijker geworden? Dit jaar is wat straffen betreft misschien wel het meest inconsistente jaar ooit.

  Sinds Japan kan Masi geen goed meer doen, hoe verrassend..
  De wedstrijdleiding is misschien nog niet consistent (alsof dat ooit wel het geval was) maar over het algemeen genomen is duidelijk zichtbaar dat ze wat coulanter zijn geworden, eigenlijk sinds die merkwaardige straf van Vettel in Canada..

Michael Masi is in mijn beleving nog geen aanwinst voor de F1. Voor mij zijn de regels in ieder geval niet duidelijker geworden. Als het allemaal zo duidelijk zou zijn begrijp ik ook niet waarom er telkens zoveel tijd nodig is om een beslissing te nemen over een straf.
Ook begrijp ik niet waarom er eerst een gesprek nodig is met de betrokken coureurs voor dat er een beslissing wordt genomen over een straf. Het voelt voor mij alsof een coureur er mee weg kan komen als hij zegt "oh ja sorry, ik had het even niet in de hand, kon er niets aan doen, zal voortaan beter opletten" en juist wel straf krijgt als hij zegt "was helemaal niet mijn fout, die andere was fout".
Volgens mij moet men gewoon kijken wat er is gebeurd door alle beelden en de data te analyseren en op basis daarvan oordelen of er iemand de regels heeft overtreden en welke straf daarbij hoort, en is het helemaal niet relevant of een coureur dit nu "per ongeluk" of expres deed. We kunnen achteraf toch nooit in het hoofd van de coureur kijken wat daar in om ging op het moment van het incident.

  pfff heel verhaal maak je ervan, maar het is mij wel duidelijk dat je op 1 specifiek geval doelt, niet moeilijk raden welk geval
