Alain Prost: "Strijd tussen Ferrari-coureurs kan in 2020 verder intensiveren"

Ferrari had het dit jaar niet altijd even makkelijk met het managen van de verhoudingen tussen Sebastian Vettel en Charles Leclerc. Alain Prost denkt dat de strijd om de status als nummer 1 binnen Ferrari in 2020 nog intenser gaat worden.

Vettel werd voorafgaand aan het seizoen 2019 door Ferrari aangewezen als de absolute nummer 1 van het team, maar aanvankelijk kon de Duitser die status niet helemaal waarmaken. Leclerc begon aan zijn stoelpoten te knagen, maar in de laatste races lijkt het momentum juist weer wat meer richting Vettel te schuiven. Volgens viervoudig wereldkampioen Prost kan het getouwtrek volgend jaar best nog even doorgaan.

"Het zal volgend jaar lastig worden voor Ferrari om conflicten tussen Vettel en Leclerc te voorkomen. De enige oplossing is om ze de kans te geven tegen elkaar te strijden. Als een van de coureurs dan een probleem heeft en zijn teamgenoot een aantal races wint, dan komt er een moment dat er een verandering van de aanpak nodig is", vertelde Prost tegenover AFP.

Tegelijkertijd is voormalig Ferrari-president Luca di Montezemolo van mening dat Ferrari moet blijven werken met een nummer 1 en nummer 2. "Een van de problemen dit jaar is met de coureurs geweest. Leclerc is absoluut zeer snel, heeft de verwachtingen overtroffen en is gestopt met het vele praten via de radio, maar hij heeft nog meer tijd nodig. Het is een prettig dilemma voor Ferrari, dat zowel voor- als nadelen heeft", wist hij aan Rai te melden.

Daar heb je helemaal gelijk in. Qua rijders line-up is dit nu het sterkste team dat er is. Bottas is overduidelijk de wingman van Hamilton, net als dat Verstappen overduidelijk de nummer 1 bij RBR zal zijn en zijn teamgenoot als wingman zal moeten gaan fungeren.

Lekker toch, een team dat gewoon 2 rijders heeft die beiden niet alleen races kunnen winnen, maar met de juiste wagen ook mee kunnen doen voor de titel.
Je moet alleen als teammanager heel goed weten wat je wilt en dit ook heel duidelijk maken aan beide rijders. Natuurlijk wil je beide rijders tevreden houden, dat kan alleen maar door ze vrij te laten racen (en geen no1 of no2 aan te wijzen), maar dan loop je weer het risico dat ze elkaar van de baan af rammen…..

Laat ze rijders zelf maar bewijzen wie het beste is. Als teambaas er voor zorgen dat alle neuzen dezelfde kant op wijzen en dat de rijders elkaar voldoende respecteren om elkaar heel te laten op de baan.

  enerzijds ben ik ook bang voor de gevolgen volgend jaar, anderzijds vind ik het eerlijk gezegd ook wel weer mooi dat mijn favo team 2 competitieve aan elkaar gewaagde coureurs in dienst heeft... mooiste duo op de grid, bij de andere topteams is het een one man show...

  Als het om de andere teams gaat, mag je McLaren niet vergeten…...
  Norris en Sainz ind ik een heel interessant rijdersduo. Beiden beschikken over voldoende talent. Sainz is een redelijk van zijn wilde haren af (gedrag dat hem in de Toro Rosso tijd niet altijd in dank werd afgenomen) en rijdt nu gewoon goed. Norris is een rookie die qua talent niet onder doet voor Leclerc en Verstappen. Daar hoop ik ook nog veel van te mogen zien in de komende jaren.
  
  Als McLaren het chassis goed doorontwikkeld, zijn zij het eerste team dat de aansluiting bij de huidige top3 kan maken. Ze hebben de rijders, ze hebben de faciliteiten, ze hebben de kennis.

Wacht zelf ook maar eens af wat er in je eigen renstal staat te gebeuren tussen Ricciardo en Ocon. Dat wordt nog lachen daar voorspel ik.

  terecht punt, Ricciardo zal zichzelf als de teamleider zien maar Ocon is zo'n heetgebakerd mannetje die er vol in vliegt totdat de brokstukken in het rond vliegen, maak je daar alvast maar druk over le professeur.......

Ik denk dat ze er goed aan doen om ze vrij te laten om te racen in eerste helft van het seizoen, met de kanttekening erbij dat beide coureurs zich schikken bij beslissing van Binotto wie de voorkeur krijgt in tweede seizoenshelft. Vraagt leiderschap en hele goede afspraken vooraf.

  Ik denk ook dat dat de juiste manier is. Laat ze vrij tot er eentje echt hoger in punten staat en zet dan een rijdersstrategie voor de rest van het seizoen uit. Lijkt mij dat geen van beide rijders daar op tegen kan zijn. Maar dat moet wel vanaf het begin heel duidelijk zijn ja.
