Albon vindt het 'ongelooflijk' dat hij in 2020 bij Red Bull Racing blijft

Alexander Albon mag ook in 2020 zijn kunsten vertonen bij Red Bull Racing. De Britse Thai vindt het 'ongelooflijk' dat hij zijn zitje mag behouden.

Eerder deze week bevestigde Red Bull dat Albon ook in 2020 naast Max Verstappen rijdt, terwijl minuten later bekend werd gemaakt dat Daniil Kvyat en Pierre Gasly bij Scuderia Toro Rosso blijven. Albon kwam halverwege 2019 bij Red Bull, ondanks het feit dat hij bezig is met zijn eerste seizoen in de Formule 1. Hij nam de plek over van Gasly, die in zijn eerste seizoen bij het team niet presteerde zoals gehoopt.

Albon kan zelf nog niet helemaal geloven dat hij in 2020 ook bij Red Bull Racing racet. "Het is ongelooflijk. Ik zeg het vaak, maar ik meen het echt als ik dat zeg. Het was een behoorlijk beangstigend vooruitzicht toen ik na Hongarije de oproep kreeg, maar ik had het gevoel dat ik het kon. Ik ben redelijk tevreden met de races die ik heb gehad. Het voelt natuurlijk heel goed dat ik het uiteindelijke bericht kreeg dat ik volgend jaar mag blijven."

Albon dacht weinig na over zitje in 2020

Tegenover GPToday.net gaf hij toe niet veel nagedacht te hebben over of hij in 2020 mocht aanblijven. "De manier waarop ik denk over dingen is dat ik probeer in het heden te blijven en niet te denken aan de externe dingen. Dat blijft nu zo. Ik blijf tot het eind van het jaar en ook volgend jaar doen wat ik doe. Het wel of niet weten had de situatie niet veranderd, het zijn de resultaten die tellen. Daar lag mijn focus."

Albon heeft voor de laatste races van 2019 een duidelijke doelstelling. "Ik denk niet dat er veranderingen zijn in wat ik denk en mijn denkwijze voor het einde van het seizoen. In mijn achterhoofd zit nog steeds dat ik me wil blijven ontwikkelen en me voor wil bereiden op volgend jaar. Ik ken dan meer circuits en zal meer ervaring hebben. Het gaat erom dat ik een goede fundering neerleg voor 2020."

  2015 maakte Albon zijn F3 debuut, en eindigde als 7e in de eindstand
  2016 makte overstap naar GP 3 en werd 2e achter Leclerc
  2017 stapte Albon naar de F2 en werd 10e in het eindklassement
  2018 bleef hij actief in de F2 en werd 3e in het eindklassement
  Inderdaad ongelooflijk, met zo'n CV
  Ik gun het hem van harte hoor, laat dat duidelijk zijn, maar het voelt toch als gebrek aan wat beters
  Maar RB zal via data's waarschijnlijk meer weten dan wat wij weten.

alles mooi en aardig , maar kan elk moment worden teruggedraait als die niet presteert .

is een van de dingen bij Red Bull die ik logisch vind , materiaal wordt elke race verbeterd ,maar coureurs kunnen ook vervangen worden op elk moment indien nodig .

raar dat andere teams een volledig seizoen weggooien en niet gewoon een prestatie clausule in de contracten heeft ,zodat ze ook coureurs kunnen upgraden indien nodig.

Terug gehaalde coureurs, verschuivingen van rijders tussen TR en RB. Nee, tis niet hosanna daar.
