Hülkenberg ontkent akkoord voor IndyCar in 2020: "Zal voorlopig niets tekenen"

Nico Hülkenberg ontkent dat hij in 2020 de overstap gaat maken naar de IndyCar Series. De huidige coureur van Renault heeft nog nergens een contract getekend en weet dus nog niet wat de toekomst gaat brengen.

Het speculeren over de toekomst van Hülkenberg is in volle gang. De Duitser werd in de voorbije weken in eerste instantie in verband gebracht met de nog beschikbare stoeltjes in de Formule 1, werd vervolgens gelinkt aan een zitje in de DTM en nu zou hij op korte termijn gepresenteerd worden bij het IndyCar-team van Ed Carpenter. Daar zou hij samen met Rinus van Kalmthout een duo gaan vormen.

In Brazilië ontkrachtte Hülkenberg tegenover GPToday.net de geruchten over een contract bij Ed Carpenter Racing. Op korte termijn zal hij ook geen duidelijk verschaffen. "Ik heb nog niets getekend voor 2020 en dat zal ik op korte termijn ook niet doen. Ik heb meerdere aanbiedingen gekregen van teams uit verschillende categorieën, maar op dit moment gebeurt er niet veel."

IndyCar een optie, maar ovals sluit Hülkenberg uit

Desondanks geeft Hülkenberg wel toe dat de IndyCar Series een optie voor hem is. "Dat denk ik wel. Op dit moment sta ik er heel relaxed in. Ik wil het seizoen zo succesvol mogelijk afmaken en daarna wil ik even tot rust komen en even één, twee of drie momenten voor mezelf hebben. Ik wil kijken wat ik wil doen en wat me interessant lijkt. Ik heb absoluut niet het gevoel dat ik ergens gehaast in wil stappen om maar te racen."

Mocht Hülkenberg ervoor kiezen in 2020 in de IndyCar te gaan rijden, dan is het waarschijnlijk dat hij de ovals overslaat. "Ik heb altijd gezegd dat ik geen fan ben van ovals. Het raakt me gewoon niet en ik heb er ook te veel respect voor. Het lijkt me gewoon niets voor mij. Een optie is dus om het dan te beperken tot de road courses."

Indycar is alleen een optie in de auto van Ed Carpenter ... Ed wil zelf geen roadcoarses rijden. Niet dat mij dit heel veel uit maakt als hij daar niet rijdt... Ik wil gewoon dat Veekay zijn plek krijgt.

  Dus misschien toch ook een beetje angst voor de ovals... Wat ik me best kan voorstellen, want je hangt zo in de muur en/of de hekken....

  dat betekend wel degelijk dat hij het te gevaarlijk vind, en meer risico's lopen voor een vorm van racen waarmee je in de basis persoonlijk toch al niets hebt zou niet verstandig zijn, in dat opzicht kan ik Hulkenberg wel volgen, ondanks dat ik zelf grote fan ben van de ovals..
  Ik ben zelf wel van mening dat hij dan beter geheel kan wegblijven ipv een gedeeltelijk kalender afwerken, ovals zijn gewoon onlosmakelijk verbonden met de Indycars

Een F1 coureur die teveel respect heeft voor ovals?

Doornbos wordt vaak en graag op de hak genomen door de broertjes coronel, maar Doornbos heeft recht van spreken, heeft het wel gedaan!

Racen is nooit zonder risico.

Indycars zijn langzamer op de ovals en veiliger dan de auto’s waar Arie Luyendijk mee heeft gereden in zijn carriere.
Snelste rondje ooit op Indianapolis 4x rechtsaf staat nogsteeds op Arie zijn naam.

Toen mannen nog ballen hadden.... en jongens in de ballenbak bij macdonalds bleven spelen, zucht.

  Hopelijk blijft hij niet de succesvolste Nederlander op Indy, komt daar komende jaren verandering in!
