Bottas: "Veranderingen aan afstelling veroorzaakten gebrek aan snelheid"

Valtteri Bottas kwam in de kwalificatie in Brazilië niet verder dan de vijfde plaats. De Mercedes-coureur stelt dat hij bijna het maximale uit de auto haalde, maar dat Ferrari en Red Bull simpelweg te sterk waren.

Twee weken geleden lukte het Bottas nog om de pole position te veroveren tijdens de Grand Prix van de Verenigde Staten, maar een dergelijk feestje zat er in Sao Paulo niet in. De Fin kwam fors tekort en moest daardoor genoegen nemen met de vijfde positie in de kwalificatie. Toch had Bottas achteraf het gevoel dat hij zo goed als alles uit de Mercedes W10 geperst heeft, zo vertelde hij aan GPToday.net.

"Vanochtend was bocht 1 lastig en ik moest daardoor veel ronden afbreken. Het kostte me ook wat tijd op het asfalt. Daardoor had ik een kleine achterstand bij het ingaan van de kwalificatie, omdat we kleine veranderingen deden aan de afstelling om te kijken wat beter werkte. In de kwalificatie bouwde het op en begon ik het goed te voelen. Er waren geen grote problemen met de auto en de sessie was redelijk normaal."

"De eerste run in Q3 voelde redelijk goed aan. Er was slechts een bocht waar ik tijd verloor, bij het aansnijden van bocht 9. Buiten dat haalde ik ongeveer alles uit de auto. In de tweede run probeerde ik wat meer, maar ik gleed veel weg. Ik wist dus dat ik niet meer uit de auto kon halen. Lewis had een betere run, maar buiten dat hadden we gewoon niet de auto voor de eerste rijd. We moeten kijken wat er mogelijk is in de race."

Bottas zal de Grand Prix van Brazilië vanaf de vierde positie aanvangen. Charles Leclerc kwalificeerde zich weliswaar voor de Mercedes-coureur maar hij incasseert nog een gridstraf van 10 plaatsen voor een motorwissel.

  "Ferrari war gerade mit beiden Autos bei der FIA-Garage, um noch einmal zu checken, dass alle Teile innerhalb der Toleranzen liegen. Ungwöhnlich war, dass Teamchef Mattia Binotto höchstpersönlich vorbeigeschaut hat.
  FIA-Technikdirektor Nikolas Tombazis hatte am Morgen eine angeregte Diskussion mit Ferrari-Ingenieuren."

  Ik denk dat alle teams nu idd bij elkaar gaan wijzen , en wat betreft die ophanging bij Red Bull die is inderdaad compleet anders als bij de andere teams .
  
  Allard kalf liet aan t begin van het seizoen doorschemeren dat Red Bull met iets compleet anders bezig is Qua ophanging waarmee men op de langere termijn de vruchten hoopt te plukken .
  
  Of het een actieve ophanging is lijkt me van niet want dat is verboden en weet men bij Red Bull ook , maar je weet het nooit met deze regelgeving , wel heb ik gehoord dat men bij aanvang van het seizoen gevraagd heeft aan de Fia of men deze kant op mocht ontwikkelen en het antwoord was positief .

  Nee niets, Italiaanse media ter plaatse maken er ook (nog?) geen melding van.
  Binotto en Tombazis zijn oud Ferrari collega's, ik had dat gesprek wel mee willen krijgen.

  Wel een stukje over Herr Doktor Marko, die Mercedes verzoekt om ook verzoeken bij de FIA in te dienen om bepaalde grijsgebieden af te sluiten voor 2020.
  Volgens Marko hebben zij de aanval geopend op Ferrari en verwacht hij nu van Mercedes om dat voort te zetten.

Matig optreden van Bottas , Mercedes was vandaag niet de snelste maar Bottas had wel wat dichter bij Hamilton kunnen staan , maar door de straf van Charles , staat Bottas weer netjes achter Lewis tijdens de start
