Red Bull kopieert trucje Mercedes met oog op bandentest Abu Dhabi

Red Bull Racing heeft zich goed voorbereid op de bandentest van komende week in Abu Dhabi. Het team heeft haar bolide voor dit raceweekend uitgerust met extra sensoren en infraroodcamera's, zodat die ook tijdens de test gebruikt kunnen worden.

Komende dinsdag en woensdag komen de teams en coureurs voor het laatst dit jaar in actie: in Abu Dhabi staat dan de afsluitende bandentest op het programma, waarbij er voor het eerst echt uitvoerig getest kan worden met de banden voor 2020. Het ligt dan ook voor de hand dat de teams zoveel mogelijk data willen verzamelen en Red Bull heeft haar bolides daarom voor het raceweekend al uitgerust met infraroodcamera's.

Aan de linkerzijde van de auto zijn twee cameraatjes geplaatst: een ingebouwd in het bodywork van de sidepod en eentje op een van de dwarselementen voor de sidepod. Ook op een van de dwarselementen voor de rechter sidepod is zo'n cameraatje aangebracht. Met deze infraroodcamera's hoopt Red Bull meer data te kunnen verzamelen over de nieuwe banden.

Teams zijn echter verplicht om de test in Abu Dhabi te rijden met een auto van dezelfde specificatie als tijdens de Grand Prix van Abu Dhabi en dat is dan ook de reden dat de camera's al tijdens het Grand Prix-weekend op de auto zitten. Red Bull heeft hiermee het trucje van Mercedes van afgelopen jaar afgekeken: de regerend wereldkampioenen installeerden toen ook voor het raceweekend een aantal cameraatjes, waarmee waardevolle data over de banden voor 2019 verzameld werd.

@Nutstree, waar staat dat Mercedes dat dit jaar niet doet? Misschien doen alle teams het dit jaar wel met cameraatjes. In ieder geval RB.

  Ja, vanuit mijn professie werk ik met meetsystemen die identiek zijn aan die gebruikt worden in de formule1. Bijvoorbeeld een simpele versnellingsmeter op de as kan al bakken met bruikbare data opleveren. Zo gepiept met bijna geen impact op het pakket.

  de data die die extra sensor genereert is veel belangrijker dan het negatieve effect op peformance in de race
