Toto Wolff heeft geen probleem met gesprekken tussen Hamilton en Ferrari

Toto Wolff heeft er geen problemen mee als Lewis Hamilton ontmoetingen zou hebben met Ferrari. De teambaas van Mercedes vindt het niet meer dan normaal dat een coureur zijn opties bekijkt.

Zaterdag berichtte La Gazzetta dello Sport over het feit dat Hamilton meerdere ontmoetingen gehad heeft met Ferrari-president John Elkann gedurende het lopende seizoen. Volgens Wolff is het normaal dat een coureur kijkt naar de stappen die hij in de toekomst wil nemen en daarom vertelde de Oostenrijker ook dat hij er geen probleem mee heeft. "Ik heb daar helemaal geen probleem mee."

"Dit is een vrije wereld en ik erken dat iedereen de opties voor zijn carrière moet verkennen en het beste besluit voor zichzelf moet nemen. Daar vallen ook coureurs en andere mensen onder. Ik vind dat dus geen probleem, want een coureur wil altijd in de snelst mogelijke auto zitten, en het snelste team zal altijd proberen de snelste coureur aan te trekken. Er is dus een goede overeenstemming tussen ons over wat we proberen te bereiken."

Wolff weet dat er maar een ding is wat hij en Mercedes kunnen doen om Hamilton te overtuigen te blijven: een winnende auto bieden, zodat de Brit niet de behoefte heeft om om zich heen te kijken. "Ik kijk heel relaxed naar deze situatie. We moeten erg hard pushen om de coureurs de snelst mogelijke auto te geven. Als we dat kunnen, ben ik er 100 procent van overtuigd dat we de sterkste coureurs in de auto hebben."

"Alles wijst erop dat onze samenwerking met Hamilton door zal gaan, maar je weet het nooit. Zoals gezegd ben ik hier dus heel open over. Ik ben gaan omarmen dat iedereen doelen heeft en de best mogelijke kans voor hun carrière moet hebben. Wat dat betreft sta ik ervoor open dat iedereen haar opties verkent. Mijn persoonlijke prioriteit echter voor het team zou zijn om verder te gaan met deze succesvolle samenwerking."

  Gisteren maakte ik een geintje met´Hij zal wel met Ferrari hebben gesproken omdat die ineens zo snel leken´ zal het toch een kern van de waarheid bevatten? Dat hij licht in paniek raakte omdat hij zijn dominantie leek kwijt te raken?

Volgens mij is er geen reden elders te kijken. Misschien klinkt het een beetje paranoïde, maar ik heb al een hele tijd het idee dat Mercedes nogsteeds met afstand de beste bolides heeft, maar het wil doen lijken alsof ze niet over dominant zijn en de indruk wekken dat de andere teams dichterbij komen. Dit omdat niemand zit te wachten op nog meer talloze jaren van dominantie. Ze halen de buit binnen, en dan weer doen alsof ze vrezen voor de andere topteams.
Maargoed, is maar een gedachte natuurlijk, wat me niks zou verbazen.

Heel goed Toto, laat je niet gek maken door het rondsnuffelen van "de Verkozene".
Je beseft heel goed dat je de afgelopen seizoenen ook kampioen was geworden zonder de Heilige Brit.
De kampioenen van voorgaande seizoenen hadden dan simpelweg een andere achternaam gehad (Rosberg & Bottas) maar nog steeds in je Mercedes gereden.
Ik vermoed trouwens dat je zelf ook regelmatig snuffelaars bij je op bezoek hebt gehad die op zoek waren voor een stageplaats achter het stuur voor één of meer seizoenen.
