Sean Gelael krijgt halve testdag bij Toro Rosso in Abu Dhabi

Scuderia Toro Rosso heeft onthuld welke coureurs de bandentest in Abu Dhabi gaan afwerken. Naast Pierre Gasly en Daniil Kvyat komt ook Formule 2-coureur Sean Gelael een dagdeel in actie.

Gelael is dinsdag de eerste coureur die namens Toro Rosso in actie komt op het Yas Marina Circuit, dat gedurende twee dagen de gastheer is van de laatste test van 2019. De Indonesiër zal de ochtend voor zijn rekening nemen, waarna hij 's middags het stuur overdraagt aan Kvyat. De hele woensdag is in principe gereserveerd voor Gasly.

Toro Rosso kende in 2019 een van de beste seizoenen uit haar bestaan. Het team scoorde een recordaantal van 85 punten en eindigde voor de tweede keer ooit op de zesde positie in het kampioenschap voor constructeurs. Bovendien pakte het team voor het eerst sinds 2008 een podiumplaats en dat lukte zelfs twee keer: Kvyat werd derde in Duitsland, terwijl Gasly de tweede positie pakte in Brazilië.

Gelael kende daarentegen een zeer tegenvallend seizoen in de Formule 2. De Indonesiër, die al jarenlang gesteund wordt door de Indonesische tak van fastfoodketen KFC, scoorde slechts 15 punten en werd daarmee zestiende in het kampioenschap. De meeste krantenkoppen haalde Gelael met zijn terugtrekking uit de races in Groot-Brittannië, nadat hij een voor zijn gevoel onterechte straf had gekregen.

Het zal voor Gelael niet de eerste keer zijn dat hij achter het stuur van een Formule 1-bolide stapt. In 2017 en 2018 reed hij in totaal al vijf vrije trainingen voor Toro Rosso, waaronder twee keer in de Verenigde Staten.

  denk dat ie hem krijgt, de thai die de helft van de aandelen van redbull heeft zal ook wel een dikke vinger bij KFC hebben en vandaar uit de halve testdag krijgen ;-)
