Formule 1 gaat weer echte geblokte vlag gebruiken om einde race aan te duiden

De Formule 1 zal vanaf 2020 weer vertrouwen op de echte zwart-wit geblokte vlag om het einde van de race aan te duiden. De elektronische borden langs de baan worden daardoor weer van ondergeschikt belang.

Gedurende het seizoen 2019 ging met juist uit van de LED-panelen om het einde van de race aan te wijzen, maar bij de Japanse Grand Prix ging dat fout. De race werd te vroeg afgevlagd door een fout in het systeem. De Formule 1 nam dit systeem juist in gebruik nadat tijdens de Grand Prix van Canada van 2018 de race juist met de fysieke vlag te vroeg werd beëindigd door model Winnie Harlow.

Na een stemming van de World Motor Sport Council heeft de FIA ervoor gekozen om de fysieke vlag weer in ere te herstellen, in plaats van te vertrouwen op het lichtpaneel. Er werden nog meer besluiten bevestigd tijdens de meeting in Parijs. Teams mogen tijdens het testen hun auto's niet meer bedekken, zodat deze evenementen aantrekkelijker worden voor de media en de fans.

De FIA heeft ook de 'woordkeuze met betrekking tot het samplen en testen van brandstof bij evenementen' veranderd om referentieverklaringen op te nemen vanaf 2020, na het onderzoek naar Charles Leclerc tijdens de Grand Prix van Abu Dhabi. Ferrari gaf daar een brandstofhoeveelheid op die niet bleek overeen te komen met de metingen van de FIA.

Ook is er een besluit genomen over een aantal leveranciers van standaard onderdelen. BBS is benoemd tot de enige velgenleverancier vanaf 2021. Magneti Marelli zal de ontluchtingspomp gaan leveren, terwijl Bosch is aangewezen als leverancier van de brandstofpomp.

  afvlaggen van een grand prix is een serieuze job, en het is al 2x fout gegaan, Pele in 2002 bij de gp van Brazilië, en vorig jaar in Canada met die Harlow

  Eén ronde te vroeg stond model Winnie Harlow al met de vertrouwde geblokte vlag te zwaaien, op aangeven van een medewerker van de FIA.

  Ik neem aan dat die celebs de vlag in de handen krijgen wanneer er gevlagd moet worden en niet zelf de ronden aan het tellen zijn en dan maar gaan zwaaien.

  Dat was de legendarische Australische flagman Glen Dix, die de races op unieke wijze afvlagde waarbij hij de aanstormende wagens tegemoet danste , vond dat altijd een mooi figuur ja!
  Op een gegeven moment werd het afgeschaft vanwege veiligheid (hoe bestaat het hé), weet niet precies wanneer dat gebeurde...
