Vettel over kritiek op zichzelf: "Ik ben niet hard voor mezelf, maar eerlijk"

Sebastian Vettel is van mening dat hij niet hard voor zichzelf is geweest door te zeggen dat hij beter moet presteren en dat hij geen geweldig jaar heeft afgeleverd. Dat was volgens hem simpelweg eerlijk.

Vettel kende inderdaad geen makkelijk seizoen in 2019. De viervoudig wereldkampioen kreeg bij Ferrari met Charles Leclerc een nieuwe teamgenoot en net als in 2014 bij Daniel Ricciardo het geval was, wist het jonge, aanstormende talent de Duitser op alle belangrijke vlakken te verslaan. Vettel werd slechts vijfde in het kampioenschap, twee posities achter Leclerc en 173 punten achter Lewis Hamilton.

Na de laatste race vertelde Vettel dat hij het beter had moeten doen en dat hij zelf een teleurstellend jaar had afgeleverd. Vervolgens legde hij uit dat hij daarmee niet hard voor zichzelf is, maar dat hij daarmee eerlijk is geweest. "Ik heb niet het gevoel dat ik gedaan heb wat ik kon doen. Ik loop hier lang genoeg rond en ik ben eerlijk genoeg om het toe te geven, dus ik denk dat ik het hier en daar beter had kunnen doen."

"Ik weet dat er van mijn kant meer in zit, dus ik moet duidelijk eerst naar mezelf kijken. We moeten de dingen aanpakken waarvan ik vind dat ze aangepakt moeten worden, maar dat moet eerst gebeuren op de verbeterpunten bij mezelf. Ik denk dus dat er dingen zijn die ik beter kan doen en waarvan ik het ook weet. Dat is het eerste waar ik naar kijk om het volgend jaar beter te doen."

'Kleine aanpassingen' voldoende voor Vettel

Volgens Vettel is het niet het geval dat hij zijn hele filosofie achter het racen overhoop moet gooien. Hij vertrouwt er met kleine aanpassingen bovenop te komen in 2020. "Het zijn details en kleine aanpassingen, geen enorme dingen. Ik hoef niet anders te rijden, ik weet hoe dat moet en we werken natuurlijk allemaal samen om de auto te verbeteren en voor ons allebei sneller te maken."

"Zoals ik al zei, je moet ook altijd naar jezelf kijken. Ik doe niet dezelfde dingen als tien jaar geleden. Ik heb me ontwikkeld en dat is ook goed. Maar hier en daar zijn er altijd dingen waarvan je vindt dat ze beter kunnen."

hij is in 2017 en 2018 wel gewoon 2e geworden en behaalde meerdere overwinningen. Eind 2018 was idd niet best en dit jaar viel ook tegen, maar zn salaris ligt gewoon vast en is niet gekoppeld aan prestatie's. Als je echt eerlijk tegen jezelf bent Seb dan geef je een deel van je salaris terug.
De op een na best bestaande man in het veld heeft nu al drie seizoenen op rij by far niet gepresteerd als de op één na best betaalde man van het veld. Zelfs zijn teamgenoot was dit jaar te snel.
Dus gewoon lekker 10 of 20 miljoen teruggeven of, beter nog, over de monteurs verdelen en volgend jaar wel gaan leveren waar je voor betaald wordt. Dat zou eerlijk zijn.

Als ie wel doet wat jij voorstelt dan zou hij tegelijkertijd ook een navordering bij RBR in moeten dienen voor de 4 jaren dat hij WK werd.

Misschien zou ie naast eerlijk toch ook hard voor zichzelf moeten zijn..... Komt z'n prestaties misschien ten goede....

Hij heeft een aantal behoorlijke fouten gemaakt dit seizoen, maar ik vind het allemaal wel wat scheef. Vettel wordt compleet afgeserveerd en Leclerc wordt bestempeld als held van de toekomst, terwijl Vettel vaak genoeg ook gewoon sneller was dan Leclerc.

Sommige mensen riepen zelfs voor de terugkeer van Raikkonen. Dezelfde Raikkonen die seizoenenlang niets in te brengen had tegen Vettel.
