Mika Hakkinen: "Dominant Mercedes in Abu Dhabi geen voorbode van 2020"

Mercedes won de Grand Prix van Abu Dhabi vorig weekend voor de zesde keer op rij. Lewis Hamilton begon op pole position en finishte met ruime zestien seconden voorsprong op Max Verstappen als eerste. Voor Mika Hakkinen is het duidelijk dat de 'overheersing' van Lewis Hamilton in Abu Dhabi 'het best mogelijke einde' was voor zijn seizoen. "Hij had de volledige controle, leek kalm en geconcentreerd. Hij was in gesprek met zijn ingenieur via de radio en leek erg blij na de race."

Lewis Hamilton is met Mercedes al jaren dominant, maar volgens de Fin is dit het piekmoment. "Lewis, die volgende maand 35 wordt, lijkt helemaal aan de top van zijn carrière te staan. Het was ook de zesde overwinning van Mercedes in Abu Dhabi - op een circuit dat past bij hun auto en hun motor.”

Zoals gewoonlijk is Mika Hakkinen zijn landgenoot - en Lewis Hamilton's teamgenoot - Valtteri Bottas te feliciteren met zijn race.

"Valtteri zou op het podium zijn geëindigd als hij niet achteraan de grid had moeten beginnen en als zijn opmars niet werd belemmerd door het falen van het DRS-systeem tijdens de eerste 20 ronden. Deze vierde positie is het maximale wat hij deze race had kunnen halen. "

"Aan het einde van zijn beste seizoen in de Formule 1 is Valtteri Bottas dit jaar echt gegroeid en naar mijn mening is de samenwerking tussen Lewis Hamilton en Valtteri Bottas de sterkste line-up als je kijkt naar snelheid, talent, jaren van ervaring en de mindset binnen het team. Dit duo is een stapje beter dan de rest."

Twijfel bij Hakkinen over dominantie Mercedes in 2020-seizoen

Gaat Mercedes in 2020 net zo domineren als zij in Abu Dhabi domineerden? Voor Mika Hakkinen hoeft dit helemaal niet het geval te zijn. "Op basis van deze tweede helft van het seizoen, verwacht ik dat 2020 een spannend gevecht wordt, met minstens drie teams en zes coureurs in een positie om races te winnen. In Abu Dhabi domineerde Mercedes, maar dat kan in 2020 zomaar anders zijn."

Geen zorgen, Als Ocon niet wint dan pakt Ric wel zijn kans. Max kan hem volgend jaar mooi terug pakken als RB op een ronde wordt gezet.

het hoeft inderdaad helemaal niet het geval te zijn in 2020, maar ook voorgaande jaren waren de naaste concurrenten van Mercedes in staat om 2e helft seizoen mee te strijden om een overwinning, jaar erop staat Mercedes er toch weer vanaf het begin

  Yep, ze hebben inmiddels zelfs het sterkste chassis. De afsluitende race was wat dat betreft wel weer een beetje een koude douche.
  
  Ik denk dat de kans groot is dat Lewis in 2020 over een heel seizoen toch weer de sterkste zal zijn al zal het dan wel een zwaar bevochten titel worden.

  RB heeft inmiddels alweer een gelijkwaardig chassis denk ik. Maar ik weet niet wat die altijd aan het doen zijn aan het begin van het jaar. Die zullen wel weer een half jaar binnenstaan de eerste helft van het seizoen want:´we moeten de wagen nog begrijpen´....

Renault heeft inmiddels een motor die beter is dan welke motor ook.
Ze hebben bovendien Ocon, in Frankrijk liefkozend “de witte Hamilton” genoemd.
Ik denk dat de top 3 zich beter op 2021 kan gaan richten want de achterstand op Renol is komend jaar niet meer dicht te rijden.
Of Ocon moet een slechte dag hebben maar dat zou dan voor het eerst zijn.
Toto zal zich nog wel eens op het hoofd krabben en afvragen waarom Ocon wegdoen ooit een goed idee leek.

Helemaal eens met Mika. Mercedes gaat al 6 jaar op rij als de Brandweer in Abu Dhabi, dat Max er ondanks zijn "lag" problemen op slechts 16 seconden achterstand finishte geeft veel vertrouwen voor volgend seizoen.
