Jacky Ickx als succesvolste Belgische coureur opgenomen in FIA Hall of Fame

Samen met nog eens 28 andere wereldkampioen in de verschillende race klasses is Jacky Ickx in Parijs opgenomen in de Hall of Fame van de Internationale Autosportfederatie FIA. De FIA hield een bijeenkomst deze week om de coureurs te eren.

Jacky Ickx komt nu terecht in een kleine clubje met daarin 33 wereldkampioenen van de Formule 1 en 17 kampioenen uit het World Rally Championship. Zij werden twee jaar geleden bij de oprichting van de Hall of Fame opgenomen. De hoofdzetel van de Internationale Autosportfederatie FIA ligt aan de place de la Concorde in Parijs.

Reactie van Jacky Ickx

Tijdens de ceremonie kwam Ickx met een korte reactie: "Ik ben tevreden dat alle generaties aanwezig zijn, van jonge tot oudere coureurs.”

Of je nu in de WRC, Formule 1 of waarin je ook rijdt, het is een familie. “We behoren allemaal tot dezelfde familie en moeten hier samen van genieten." Jacky Ickx is de bekendste en meest succesvolle Belgische Formule 1-coureur aller tijden. Hij won zes keer de 24 uur van Le Mans en is tweevoudig vicewereldkampioen Formule 1.

    De naam alleen al zou zo verzonnen kunnen zijn uit een superheldenstrip... Gereden in een aantal bijzondere liveries en de prestaties zijn meer dan voldoende om opgenomen te worden in een Hall of Fame... Volledig terecht ook naar mijn mening.

    Zoals zijn naam uitgesproken werd dacht ik dat het een Engelsman was. 1 van de mooiste herinneringen was in een race in Hockenheim (denk ik). Ickx reed in de F1 race mee met een F2 auto. Het grootste gedeelte reed hij achter de koplopers, maar in die tijd was mechanische pech eerder regel dan uitzondering. Een aantal rijders vielen voor hem weg en Ickx wist in zijn F2 auto de derde plek in de race te pakken. Helaas sloeg bij hem de pechduivel ook toe. Hij viel uiteindelijk uit.

    Ondanks dat hij nooit in de allerbeste auto's heeft gereden wist hij toch winnaar van een hand vol GPs te worden.

    Tercht dat hij deze onderscheiding kreeg.

      Ickx schat ik toch hoger in dan Boutsen. En dat komt waarschijnlijk door de overwinningen buiten de F1 op Le Mans.

      Boutsen had 3 overwinningen in F1, Ickx had er 8. Le Mans heb je er niet voor nodig om te oordelen. Hoewel ik las dat hij die 6 keer heeft gewonnen.
      Overigens heeft Ickx wel degelijk in goede auto's gereden zag ik daarstraks. Zal wel komen doordat ik me niet al te veel details kan herinneren van voor 1975 denk ik.
