Webber: "Vettel is geen goede luisteraar en moet advies vragen aan anderen"

Voormalig Formule 1-coureur Mark Webber heeft zich uitgelaten over een zwakke plek van voormalig teamgenoot Sebastian Vettel. Goed luisteren zou niet een van de sterkste eigenschappen van de Duitser zijn.

Webber en Vettel waren tussen 2009 en 2013 vijf seizoenen elkaars teamgenoot bij Red Bull Racing. Na afloop van die periode ging de Australiër met zijn F1-pensioen. Vettel bleef het Oostenrijkse team een jaar langer trouw, maar na een tegenvallend 2014 koos hij met het oog op de toekomst voor een overstap naar Ferrari. Het doel om met de Scuderia kampioen te worden, is vooralsnog niet bereikt.

Vettel maakte in 2018 en 2019 een reeks fouten op de baan en volgens Webber zit er niets anders op voor de viervoudig wereldkampioen om professionele hulp in te schakelen, waarmee hij zijn vorm weer terug zou moeten vinden. "Dit is volgens mij absoluut de belangrijkste winterperiode van zijn carrière", vertelde Webber aan Channel 4.

"Het was zijn slechtste seizoen bij Ferrari en hij zal een enorm gevecht moeten leveren om volgend jaar terug te komen. Hij is een winnaar, een vechter, maar een klein gebrek in zijn wapenarsenaal is het feit dat hij geen geweldige luisteraar is. Ik denk dat hij bij sommige mensen om advies moet vragen. Dit is voor hem onontgonnen terrein, want hij gaat richting het einde van zijn carrière."

"Hij moet ook alle mogelijke professionele adviezen vragen die hij kan krijgen van mensen die ook dit pad gevolgd hebben. Op die manier kan hij begrijpen hoe hij die nieuwe fase met passie, energie en de drive om op gang te komen kan ontgrendelen. Hij heeft nu drie kinderen thuis en er zijn 22 races volgens zijn. Ik heb zelf geen kinderen, maar dat zal een echte uitdaging worden die sommige concurrenten niet hebben."

  Webber zijn mening over Vettel zegt mij niets, die is nog steeds zuur over zijn RB tijd waar hij het onderspit moest delven tegen Vettel.

  @Maximo het is allemaal niet zo negatief wat hij zegt over Vettel. Doordat het in de titel staat lijkt het allemaal erg negatief, maar het is vooral lof voor zijn kwaliteiten.

Simpel: Vettel, ondanks meervoudig wereldkampioen, merkt dat 'ie al jarenlang niet de beste op de grid is, maar Hamilton.
En nu merkt ineens ook dat een paar jonge jongens op de grid ook beter zijn dan hij nooit meer wereldkampioen zal worden.
Maar als ze hem dat vertellen, dan zal 'ie daar zeker niet naar willen luisteren... en terecht.

  Eens Harry stotter, al denk ik dat hij dan wat kampioenschappen met Nico had moeten delen. Zeker in de beginjaren van het V6 tijdperk was die Mercedes zeer dominant en had ook Vettel waarschijnlijk minimaal 2 titels toegevoegd aan zijn totaal.
  
  Echter als hij daar teamgenoot van Lewis was geweest had ik het nog moeten zien (hoezeer ik ook fan ben van de persoon Seb als van Lewis). Dan had hij er wellicht 1 en Max 2 kunnen pakken. Lewis is wel echt op zijn top momenteel en heel erg sterk als coureur.

  @Harry Stotter en als Kimi in de Ferarri van Schumacher had gezeten was het ook anders gelopen. Het lijkt mij duidelijk dat Hamilton een hele belangrijke rol heeft in het succes van Mercedes. De mensen hebben in de zomer- en winterstop gewoon een pauze nodig van hem, omdat ze altijd maar gepushed worden. Die kwaliteit is heel belangrijk om succesvol te zijn en blijven.

Ik denk niet dat Seb naar je advies zal luisteren Mark.

Zo wel, dan zou ik advies aan een ander vragen dan waar Bottas zijn oor afgelopen winter te luisteren heeft gelegd.

Bottas 2.0 was niet echt een succesverhaal, en (ex)vrouwlief kon de 2.0 versie kennelijk ook niet echt waarderen.

Allemaal leuk en aardig, maar had Vettel destijds in de Mercedes gezet in en hij was nu 10 voudig wereldkampioen geweest. Dus waar lig het aan.
