Rossi genoot van nieuwe F1-test: "Mercedes heeft het mij heel makkelijk gemaakt"

Valentino Rossi heeft genoten van zijn hernieuwde kennismaking met een Formule 1-bolide. De negenvoudig wereldkampioen op de motorfiets zag dat er veel veranderd is sinds zijn laatste test.

Afgelopen maandag was Rossi samen met zesvoudig Formule 1-kampioen Lewis Hamilton te vinden op het Circuit Ricardo Tormo nabij Valencia, waar beide kampioenen het competitieve materiaal van de ander uit mochten proberen. Hamilton nam zodoende dus plaats op de Yamaha M1 van Rossi, terwijl de Italiaan een ritje mocht maken in de Mercedes W08 waarmee de Brit in 2017 wereldkampioen werd.

Het was voor Rossi niet de eerste keer dat hij in een Formule 1-auto reed. Tussen 2004 en 2010 mocht de bijzonder succesvolle MotoGP-coureur meerdere keren testen in een Ferrari, waarbij het in de periode 2006-2007 zelfs even dichtbij een overstap van Rossi naar de Formule 1 kwam. Die geluiden zijn er inmiddels al lange tijd niet meer, maar desalniettemin genoot Rossi van de test.

"Het was voor mij een spectaculaire kans om de W08 te testen. Ik heb eerder wel eens in een Formule 1-auto gereden, maar er is sindsdien veel veranderd", vertelde Rossi na afloop. "Ik werd verrast door de bolide en de besturing en het was geweldig om met Mercedes samen te werken. Ze hebben het mij heel makkelijk gemaakt."

Rossi moest wennen aan bolide en G-krachten

Het besturen van een snelle Formule 1-bolide is andere koek dan het rijden op een MotoGP-motor, zo bevestigde Rossi. "Je moet eerst het gevoel van de snelheid krijgen. De G-krachten voelden niet verkeerd, maar ook daar moest ik aan wennen. Toen ik het ritme te pakken had, kon ik echter wel pushen. Het was geweldig om dit te doen en ik voelde me een echte F1-coureur, dus ik hoopte dat de dag nooit ten einde zou komen."

  @Snork: Weet niet of je beetje thuis bent in de gewoontes van onze patron del mal maar die paft alleen maar sjekkies+. R in de maand, dag, of uur doet er geloof ik niet zo toe. Een berg Punta Roja in dat vloeitje, dichtvouwen en de brand erin
  @Pablo, je dekmantel als Piet Clemenza is niet erg waterdicht meer met je tronie zo op het interwebs, dat gepaf, en die opschepperij laatst over het racen in R4’s en die platte kever van je. Vroeg of laat verlinkt een van die figuren hier je.
