Renault Sport Academy wil in 2021 coureur afleveren in de Formule 1

De Renault Sport Academy is blij met hoe de jonge coureurs in het programma gepresteerd hebben in 2019. Het doel van het opleidingsprogramma is om in 2021 een Formule 1-coureur af te leveren.

De Academy van Renault ging er in 2019 vandoor met de rookie-titels in drie van de opstapklassen richting de Formule 1. Guanyu Zhou pakte die titel in de Formule 2, nadat hij onder andere vijf podiumplaatsen pakte, terwijl wijlen Anthoine Hubert in dat kampioenschap met twee zeges en postuum in de top 10 van het kampioenschap eindigde. Ook in de Formule 3 (Christian Lundgaard) en de Formule Renault Eurocup (Caio Collet) won de Academy rookie-titels.

Mia Sharizman is het hoofd van het opleidingsprogramma van Renault en is bijzonder tevreden over de verrichtingen van de junioren van het team in 2019. "Dit seizoen was het 'jaar van de rookies' geweest voor de Academy. Ik ben erg trots op wat Zhou, Anthoine, Christian, Max, Ye Yifei, Victor Martins, Caio Collet en Leonardo Lorandi bereikt hebben dit jaar."

Aan ambities ontbreekt het niet bij de Renault Sport Academy. Sharizman benadrukt dat de focus voor de coureurs in het programma in 2020 moet liggen op het binnenhalen van titels, omdat coureurs als Zhou geen rookie meer zijn. Ook is er de ambitie om in 2021 een Formule 1-coureur af te leveren met de Academy en op papier lijkt de Chinees daarvoor de aangewezen persoon, terwijl ook Jack Aitken daarvoor kanshebber is.

"Het is duidelijk dat het winnen van titels als rookie lastiger wordt en het houdt in dat onze coureurs in een geweldige positie zijn om in 2020 om titels mee te doen. Het doel is altijd geweest om tegen 2021 een Academy-coureur in de positie te hebben om een Formule 1-zitje te veroveren, dus er is nog veel werk te doen. We hebben er vertrouwen in dat dit bereikt kan worden."

2021 al? Volgens mij heeft Ricciardo een 3 jarig contract, dus tot 2022. Dus misschien vervanger voor Ocon.

  Waar staat dat dat persé bij Renault F1 moet zijn? En niet bijv. een stoeltje ergens in te kopen? (al dan niet onderdeel van een motoren-deal, alleen lijkt me dat onwaarschijnlijk)

  Dat zou dan alleen bij 1 van de nieuwe teams kunnen want Mclaren is na volgend jaar ook geen klantenteam meer.

Ik hoop echt dat Renault beter gaat presteren en in de F1 blijft. Hier wordt veel kritiek op Renault gegeven en soms ook terecht maar het is een merk met een prachtige autosport historie. Het zou zonde zijn als die verloren gaat voor de F1.

  de kritiek die hier op Renault is gaat over de prestaties van de afgelopen seizoenen en die waren gewoon slecht

  Er wordt wel degelijk negatief gekeken naar Renault, zoals Honda juist weer het voordeel van de twijfel krijgt. Renault heeft bij de eerste races problemen gekend met de betrouwbaarheid maar daarna is het goed geweest qua betrouwbaarheid. Honda heeft volgens mij met nog geen enkele motor de gewenste aantal races gereden. Maar dat is dan blijkbaar weer niet van toepassing...

  De afgelopen 9 jaar 4 titels is niet slecht. Vorig jaar nog overwinningen met RedBull wat weer snel vergeten is. Natuurlijk zitten ze niet op het niveau van Mercedes en Ferrari op dit moment maar ze hebben de mensen in huis om wel een goede motor te bouwen. Ik hoop dat ze het weer op orde krijgen en niet verdwijnen als leverancier nu ook Mclaren overstapt op Mercedes.

  de laatste 9 jaar?
  
  feit is gewoon dat er sinds 2014 helemaal niet meer zoveel succes was met maar 12 overwinningen in 121 races, en dat was dan ook nog meer te danken aan Red Bull dan aan Renault.

  Om het even te verduidelijken: Renault won van 2009 t/m 2013 51 GP's in 5 seizoenen met 94 races(50 voor Red Bull, 1 voor Williams)
  
  van 2014 t/m 2019 dat er dus 12 in 6 seizoenen met 121 races
