Teambaas McLaren: "Gaan 2020 niet opofferen voor 2021"

Andreas Seidl, de teambaas van McLaren, hoopt op verdere vooruitgang van het team in 2020, maar hij weet dat het team, net als concurrent Renault, het juiste moment moeten kiezen om zich voor te bereiden op de nieuwe reglementen voor 2021. Carlos Sainz gelooft dat de grote veranderingen dé kans vormen die McLaren nodig heeft om zich aan te sluiten bij de topteams.

Net als Renault heeft McLaren niet het budget dat de drie topteams hebben. Seidl zal de vraag moeten stellen wanneer de middelen volledig ingezet moeten worden voor de ontwikkeling van de Formule 1-bolide voor 2021. "Zoals iedereen hopen we op een goed begin van het seizoen", zei Seidl op de website van McLaren.

McLaren kende na een moeilijke periode een goed jaar in 2019. Het team schakelde in 2018 over op Renault-motoren en daar zette het team een goede stap mee. Het management van het Britse team heeft echter besloten om in 2021 over te stappen naar de Mercedes-motor. De krachtbron van de Duitse fabrikant geldt nog steeds als een van de beste op de grid. McLaren liet dit seizoen al zien een goed chassis te hebben. Carlos Sainz wist in Brazilië zelfs op het podium te eindigen en rookie Lando Norris deed vaak relatief weinig voor zijn meer ervaren teamgenoot onder.

In 2020 zal een belangrijke beslissing moeten worden genomen

McLaren wil voorafgaand aan het seizoen 2020 nog niet vol inzetten op 2021, maar zal alles blijven afwegen. "De prestaties van onze 2020-auto zullen tot op zekere hoogte bepalen wanneer we al onze middelen op 2021 zetten. Het is een beslissing die ieder jaar moet worden genomen, maar deze keer is nog belangrijker vanwege de nieuwe technische reglementen voor 2021. We gaan 2020 niet opofferen. We willen nog steeds een goed seizoen, omdat het voor de ontwikkeling van het team belangrijk is om verder te gaan."

Het 2020-seizoen zal een belangrijk seizoen worden voor veel teams. De grote teams met meer budget kunnen wat later de aandacht volledig verzetten, maar de teams met minder grote budgetten zullen al snel keuzes moeten maken. De nieuwe regelementen gaan in 2021 in en gaan zorgen voor een andere auto dan de huidige Formule 1-bolide. Zo moet het inhalen een stuk makkelijker en voor de fans de sport een stuk aantrekkelijker worden.

Zou ook dom zijn om het positieve momentum te laten varen. De juiste sfeer is weer teruggevonden bij McLaren en als ze een jaartje laten schieten is het maar afwachten of dat zo maar terug komt.

Ik ga er van uit dat men natuurlijk volledig gemotiveerd aan de bak gaat maar dat een behoorlijk gedeelte van het budget gereserveerd wordt voor 2021 als zij te maken krijgen met de introductie van een geheel nieuwe auto en motor.

Dit jaar investeert McLaren in een nieuwe windtunnel en in een nieuwe Simulator.

Dit zijn ambitieuze en met het oog op het budgetplafond in 2021 slimme investeringen.
PU voor 2021 lijkt me ook dik in ieder, net zoals de coureurs; absoluut geen buitencategorie, maar voor dit moment uitstekend voor McLaren.
De sleutel ligt bij James Key, hoop dat hij de auto voldoende door kan ontwikkelen en met een sterk ontwerp voor de dag weet te komen.

  Ik hoop t voor Mclaren maar ze hebben het geld niet meer zoals de top 3 heeft . ze zullen dit seizoen 2x zoveel moeten uitgeven om er in 2021 te staan .
  
  De auto van dit jaar moet worden ontwikkeld en doorontwikkeld en meteen bezig zijn met n compleet andere auto voor het jaar erop
  
  Voordeel is wel dat Key heeft bewezen met beperkte budgetten goed te kunnen werken maar of het genoeg is vraag ik me af .
