Mick Schumacher stelt zichzelf strijd om F2-titel in 2020 ten doel

Mick Schumacher heeft zich uitgesproken over zijn verlangen om te strijden voor de topposities in de Formule 2 in 2020. Hij hoopt dus een flinke stap vooruit te zetten ten opzichte van 2019.

Afgelopen jaar debuteerde Schumacher in de Formule 2, maar daarbij liet hij nog geen onuitwisbare indruk achter. Hoewel hij meerdere keren pech had met technische problemen en ongelukken, was het tempo er ook niet iedere race. Schumacher wist in Hongarije zijn enige race te winnen en werd twaalfde in het kampioenschap. Dat deed hij namens Prema, het team waarvoor hij ook in 2020 rijdt.

In 2020 moet het beter bij Schumacher. De Duitser, zoon van zevenvoudig Formule 1-kampioen Michael Schumacher, wil meedoen om de topposities en zodoende vechten om de titel. "Ik wil niet zeggen dat ik voor het kampioenschap ga vechten. Het is natuurlijk wel een mindset. Mijn mindset voor volgend jaar is om echt te gaan strijden voor de topposities en er vol voor te gaan."

"Het is altijd lastig om het zelf te analyseren en ik denk dat het beter is om het team te vragen, maar zelf denk ik dat ik veel geleerd heb in 2019. Vooral in het werken met een groter team en een nieuwe auto. Je ziet veel coureurs die hier een aantal jaar blijven en moeite hebben om goed te presteren. Dat laat zien dat het kampioenschap erg sterk is en dat de auto lastig te besturen is."

Grote leercurve voor Schumacher in debuutseizoen

Schumacher heeft er vertrouwen in dat hij het kampioenschap steeds beter heeft leren kennen en ook verwacht hij dat hij in een goede positie naar het volgende seizoen toe kan werken. Hij verklaarde dat hij zaken als de degradatie van de banden en het extra gewicht als een probleem beschouwde, maar dat het hem enorm veel heeft laten leren tijdens zijn debuutseizoen in de F2.

"Ik denk dat dit jaar wat meer anders was, omdat we nog meer gewicht aan de auto hebben toegevoegd. Dat zorgt ervoor dat de auto nog lastiger te besturen is. Voor de bandendegradatie geldt dat het veel invloed heeft op hoeveel snelheid we mee kunnen nemen in de bocht. De leercurve was dus groot, maar dat zie ik als iets positiefs voor volgend seizoen."

Een goede coureur past zich daar snel aan, een matige of slechte coureur heeft daar een jaar voor nodig of meer. Gewoon een rotsmoes. je hebt talent of je hebt geld en in dit geval ook nog een bekende achternaam. Ben gewoon eerlijk. Ohnee, je naam is Schumacher..

Dat Robert Schwartzmann na 2 dagen testen voor Prema al sneller was zegt heel veel, notabene op een circuit waar Schwartzmann nooit had gereden en Schumacher dat weekend nog 2 races reed

  ook in de F3 was rookie Schwartzmann al sneller, alleen op zeer dubieuze ferrari achtige praktijken was de wagen van Mick ineens veel sneller na de zomerstop. Toevallig?

  We wachten maar even af, ik neem aan dat Mick zelf wel zo verstandig zal zijn als hij niet mee kan komen, dan heeft hij niets in de F1 te zoeken.

Afgelopen jaar was het deelnemersveld in de F2 niet bepaald op haar sterkst. Dat geldt ook voor het komende seizoen. Als Mick het komend seizoen niet serieus voor de titel meedoet heeft hij niets te zoeken in de F1.

  In de snelste auto van het veld zitten, en dan als veldvulling meerijden. Triest. Het werd alleen ons voldoende zichtbaar, omdat zijn teamgenoot KFC Gelael nog slechter is. Nu met Schwartzman zal Mick door de mand vallen.

  Is ook erg treurig, ze zijn zo hun best aan het doen om Mick in de F1 te krijgen, en ik denk dat dat ook gewoon gaat gebeuren. Maar dan zal hij het echt moeten laten zien, ik blijf erbij Mick is een aardige jongen maar geen snelle racer, dus ja wat moet je ermee om het maar even zo te zeggen. Laat hem in een andere klasse rijden, dit gaat echt geen success story voor Mick worden.
