Nico Hülkenberg heeft hoop op Formule 1-terugkeer nog niet opgegeven

Nico Hülkenberg zal normaal gesproken in 2020 niet in de Formule 1 racen. Toch heeft de Duitse coureur een toekomst in de koningsklasse van de autosport nog niet afgeschreven.

Tussen 2010 en 2019 reed Hülkenberg negen seizoenen in de Formule 1, maar na afloop van het afgelopen seizoen besloot Renault om niet met hem verder te gaan. Doordat alle zitjes inmiddels vergeven zijn, staat vast dat de 32-jarige in Australië niet op de startopstelling zal staan. De voormalig GP2-kampioen heeft de hoop op een terugkeer in de Formule 1 echter niet opgegeven.

"Momenteel staat slechts vast dat ik tijdens de eerste races van 2020 niet in een auto zal zitten", vertelde Hülkenberg aan het Duitse persbureau DPA. Concrete plannen voor de toekomst heeft hij echter nog niet. "Je moet echter kijken wat er op je pad komt. Dat ligt ook aan factoren die ik zelf niet kan beïnvloeden."

Het zal voor Hülkenberg ongetwijfeld wennen zijn dat hij voor het eerst sinds 2011 niet op de startgrid staat, maar zelf probeert hij vooral naar de positieve kant van het verhaal te kijken. "Het is absoluut niet zo zwaar als ik verwachtte. Misschien is het na tien jaar helemaal niet verkeerd om een pauze te hebben, vooral na zo'n zwaar jaar als 2019. Wie weet waarvoor het uiteindelijk goed is."

Misschien is Haas een optie in 2021? Steiner kan niet eeuwig doorgaan met de huidige coureurs.

  Dan hoop ik op nieuw (Amerikaans)talent. Hulkenberg lijkt me voor 2021 een stap opzij. 2021 moet Hulkenberg sowieso op de grid staan want met de reglements wijzigingen is zijn ervaring nadien ook niks/weinig meer waard. Ik vrees dat we hem niet meer als coureur in de F1 zullen zien.

  Geloof niet dat Hulkenberg dan persé de verbetering is, die je als teambaas wilt.
  
  Hulk heeft een hoog gunfactor. Spontane gast, doet het niet onaardig. Ik vind hem overigens ook wel beter dan een Grosjean of een Magnussen. Maar nogmaals, ik vind het dan ook weer niet persé een hele verbetering.
  
  Misschien kan Haas (via motorleverancier Ferrari) beroep doen op Pascal Wehrlein. Die mag van mij wel een 2e kans krijgen. En dan met hem richting de toekomst werken.

  Ik denk dat bij de red bull teams vanaf het begin iedereen vol moet presteren anders straat de vervanger klaar.

Zeer kleine kans, als je er eenmaal uit ligt, dan kan je het bijna wel vergeten, Ocon had nog geluk dat hij nog een stoeltje kreeg.

Blijkt je collega de neef van Nico Hulkenberg te zijn... kom ik na zijn afscheid achter. Neefje geeft overigens geen ruk om de sport, maar ik hoop dat ie terugkomt om er toch nog even van te profiteren :)

Ik heb het gevoel dat hij al ergens al een deal heeft ofzo met een team, om later terug te komen. Hij was zo relaxt en zorgeloos toen we hoorde dat hij dit jaar niet zo rijden. Net alsof die al wat wist wat wij niet weten. We zullen zien.

  Ik had meer het idee dat het berusting was. Wetende dat hij het zelf heeft vergooid op de momenten dat hij zich 'onsterfelijk' had kunnen maken.
