Alfa Romeo: "Moeten op basis van vorig jaar beter worden"

Zoals een groot gedeelte van de F1-teams, bevestigde Alfa Romeo deze week de releasedatum van hun bolide voor 2020. De auto wordt voor het eerst aan de buitenwereld vertoond op 19 februari.

Waar Alfa Romeo eind 2018 en begin 2019 een plek als stabiele subtopper leek te hebben bemachtigd in de Formule 1, viel het team eind vorig seizoen toch weer ver terug en scoorde het nog maar mondjesmaat punten. De doelstelling voor Alfa Romeo is dan ook duidelijk; de achtste plaats, waarop zij afgelopen seizoen eindigden in het constructeurskampioenschap, verbeteren.

Frederic Vasseur, teambaas van de renstal, toonde zich echter hoopvol voor het 2020-seizoen: “We gaan een volledig nieuwe auto maken. We willen meer terrein winnen, maar de punten zullen niet vanzelf komen en het ritme moet daarom goed zijn. We zullen zien hoe het eruit gaat zien, maar ik denk dat we een goede basis hebben voor komend seizoen”, zei Frederic Vasseur.

Seizoen 2019 is een leermoment

De Fransman staat erop dat er verbeteringen moeten komen ten opzichte van de resultaten van vorig seizoen. Vasseur erkent dat de verwachtingen begin vorig seizoen vrij hoog waren, maar de realiteit was anders: "We moeten verbeteren met behulp van de vorig jaar opgedane ervaring en begrijpen wat precies veroorzaakte dat we op sommige punten te laat waren.”
