'Stroll toont veel meer belangstelling in Racing Point dan Mallya'

Otmar Szafnauer heeft een duidelijke verandering waargenomen in de manier waarop Racing Point geleidt wordt. Nieuwe eigenaar Lawrence Stroll toont zich veel meer betrokken dan voorganger Vijay Mallya.

Het in financieel zwaar weer verkerende Force India werd in augustus 2018 overgenomen door een consortium onder leiding van Stroll. De Canadese zakenman doopte het team vervolgens om in Racing Point, terwijl Mallya uit de Formule 1 verdween. Volgens Szafnauer is dat niet de enige verandering die merkbaar is bij het team: ook toont Stroll veel meer interesse in de dagelijkse gang van zaken dan zijn voorganger.

"Het significante verschil is dat Lawrence veel meer belangstelling toont in wat er gebeurt binnen het team", stelt Szafnauer tegenover RaceFans. "Hij wil meer weten over alle aspecten van waar we mee bezig zijn. Vijay had daarentegen een minder betrokken houding, waarbij hij meer van een afstandje bekeek wat er gebeurde."

Volgens Szafnauer is het niet zo dat Mallya niet van de racerij hield of dat hij zich niet verbonden voelde met het team. "Vijay hield heel erg van het racen, dus je zag hem bij iedere race. Maar tot en met het laatste jaar misschien vier tot vijf dagen per jaar door in de fabriek, terwijl Lawrence twee, drie keer per week komt. In een maand is Lawrence er dus acht tot tien dagen, terwijl Vijay er vijf dagen per jaar was. Dat is een significant verschil."

  Ik dacht dat hij vanwege die schuld ook het land niet meer uit kon?
  (omdat er verschillende internationale strafrechtelijke onderzoeken tegen hem liepen ivm belastingontduiking en dergelijke)

  Dat met die Schuld is pas de laatste anderhalf jaar geweest. Szafnauer spreekt over de gehele periode dat hij met Mallya samenwerkte. Dat was dus een baas die zijn personeel vertrouwd en hun gang laat gaan. Gezien de resultaten tot aan de financiele problemen, was dat geen slecht recept.

De vraag is natuurlijk alleen om welke reden is hij zo nauw betrokken buiten het feit dat het niet altijd positief is dat een amateur ook al is deze eigenaar in de sport zich bemoeit met de gang van zaken binnen een team van professionals. Kijk maar naar biijvoorbeeld de vele voetbal teams waar de eigenaar een ander doel na streeft als de club.

Enige reden om zo vaak je kop te laten zien is betrokkenheid tonen op het randje van in de weg lopen of omdat je er nog niet van overtuigd bent dat het efficient draait en je met eigen ogen wilt zien of je capabele managers hebt

Mallya erfde UB Spirits, bekend van het biermerk Kingfisher, van zijn vader en veranderde het in de grootste sterke drankmaker van India. Hij werd de voorzitter van UB Group op 28-jarige leeftijd.

Daarna heeft hij er 1 grote bende van gemaakt, hoe kan je het allemaal verkloten, nou zo dus.
