Paul Ricard kan aanpassingen aan circuit binnen 'vier dagen' afronden

De organisatie van de Grand Prix van Frankrijk maakte haar voornemen bekend om de eerste sector van Circuit Paul Ricard aan te passen om meer inhaalmogelijkheden te creëren. Die aanpassingen kunnen volgens directeur Eric Boullier 'binnen vier dagen' gedaan worden.

Paul Ricard keerde in 2018 terug op de kalender van de Formule 1 en in 2020 wordt dus de derde editie van de race verreden. De eerste twee edities sprankelden echter niet: inhalen bleek bijzonder lastig te zijn op het circuit in Zuid-Frankrijk. Dat probleem hoopt de organisator op te lossen door de eerste sector van het circuit aan te passen. De eerste chicane is een van de punten waarop het circuit moet worden aangepast.

Boullier, eerder deze week aangesteld als de nieuwe algemeen directeur van de Franse Grand Prix. Hij vertelde aan Autosport dat de plannen nu bij de FIA liggen. Mocht de internationale autosport goedkeuring geven voor de verandering van de layout van het circuit, dan kunnen die aanpassingen snel doorgevoerd worden. Boullier benadrukt dat dit 'binnen vier dagen' mogelijk is.

"We hebben er al enkele maanden aan gewerkt en nu zitten we in de laatste fase. We hebben een verzoek ingediend bij de FOM om de layout van het circuit aan te passen, na al het werk dat we gedaan hebben. We hebben in samenspraak met de FOM simulatiewerk gedaan en we zijn in een vergevorderd stadium, want er is nu een versie die bij de FIA ligt voor homologatie", aldus Boullier.

  ik ben er vaak geweest maar ik vind ze totaal niet arrogant. Ik ben vooral in het zuiden en oosten geweest en ik had totaal geen last van de mentaliteit. Het zijn denk ik meer de leidinggevende en Parijs waar dat vandaan komt. Parijs kan je wel een beetje vergelijken met de Amsterdamse mentaliteit.
