Mercedes: "Geruchten over ons vertrekt zijn zeer voorbarig"

Het wordt de komende twee weken afwachten wat Mercedes gaat beslissen. Op 12 februari, de dag waarop de RB16 een shakedown krijgt, zal het bestuur van Mercedes in een vergadering beslissen over de toekomst van het Formule 1-team. Gisteren kwamen er berichten naar buiten waardoor de speculaties over een vertrek aan het einde van 2020 op gang kwamen.

Een chief executive van Daimler heeft nu kort gereageerd op de verhalen over een mogelijk vertrek van Mercedes in de Formule 1. Ola Kaellenius vertelde tegen Duitse Media kort maar krachtig: "Onzin, niet waar."

Is er nog toekomst?

Interessant is de situatie zeker. Mercedes domineert het V6 hybride tijdperk volledig en pakt vrijwel alle titels die er te winnen zijn. Er is ook intern bij Mercedes al vaker gediscussieerd wat de uitdagingen zijn en wat er nog te halen valt in de Formule 1. Mede daarom zouden er intern discussies zijn om de Duitse inbreng in te kapselen en eventueel verder te gaan als motorleverancier en niet als fabrikant.

Een samenwerking tussen Toto Wolff en Lawrence Stroll, de eigenaar van Racing Point, is ook al geopperd. Stroll is ook in de race om Aston Martin te kopen, waardoor de twee mogelijk samen verder willen en Mercedes om willen dopen tot Aston Martin.

    Ik denk ook niet dat ze zich helemaal gaan terug trekken. Misschien als team, maar zeker niet als PU leverancier. Ik heb de afgelopen dagen wel wat suggesties voorbij zien komen áls ze stoppen als team. Een scenario dat Stroll het overneemt en ombouwt naar Aston Martin en/of er een intensievere samenwerking komt met McLaren en er weer een McLaren-Mercedes ontstaat zijn beide plausibel. Maar laten we eerst maar afwachten wat er besloten wordt.

      Euhm nee, Wolff heeft al aangegeven daar geen interesse in te hebben. Daarnaast sprak de CEO niet over voorbarig, maar zei hij op de vraag of het bedrijf plannen heeft om de F1 te verlaten het volgende: "That’s bullshit". Waarom is het zo moeilijk voor mensen te accepteren dat Mercedes gewoon in de F1 blijft in plaats van allerlei krankzinnige constructies te bedenken die gebaseerd zijn op wat geruchten.

      With Mercedes having already put in place customer engine supply deals with McLaren, Racing Point and Williams from 2021, Wolff suggests Mercedes would be unlikely to continue to provide powerunits if it felt F1 no longer suited its purpose.

      "We have four teams that we supply, including ourselves," he said. "You can be only pregnant or not pregnant, not half pregnant. So, either we participate in the platform or we do not."

      Pushed on the issue of staying as an engine supplier if its work teams quit, Wolff said: "I don't think anyone would decide that [to leave F1].

      "But if that were to happen, it [stopping customer supplies] would be a consequence."

      @zOmer,
      Toto zegt in je verhaal "unlikely" (onwaarschijnlijk) en geeft daarna aan dat hij het zich niet kan voorstellen maar dat stoppen inderdaad een consequentie zal kunnen zijn.

      Je haalt met je post dus geen onduidelijkheden weg, mocht je dat denken. ?

      Wat valt er niet aan te begrijpen? Ik reageer op iemand die zegt dat ze sowieso wel zullen aanblijven als leverancier. Wolff zegt dat als ze de F1 gaan verlaten, het stoppen met leveren van motoren een van de consequenties zal zijn.

      Je kan specularen of zeer stellig zijn en dingen als waarheid bestempelen .
      Als je de comments van het artikel er gisteren bijpakt daar waren eer een aantal mensen zeer stellig .

      Ach wellicht hun eigen overtuiging. Ik zelf denk ook (al een tijdje) dat Merc de boel inpakt mbt hun eigen team en alleen doorgaan als motor leverancier. Ik ben zeer stellig dat ik die mening heb :-)

    De media moet wat in deze F1 winter. Dus plaats je wat geruchten, zodat er wat te lezen valt. Niks aan de hand dus, gewoon doorlopen. 12 februari horen we dat Mercedes tot 2025 doorgaat met haar F1 project.

    Is al bijna een jaar bekend dat Daimler zn organisatie gaat 'stroomlijnen' .. Er gaat domweg een hoop verdwijnen, vermoedelijk ook AMG, niet in de laatste plaats door al het milieu geleuter,, dus niet denkbeeldig dat ze (ook) de stekker uit F1 trekken...
