Paul Ricard houdt chicane op Mistral, maar mogelijk wel andere configuratie

Circuit Paul Ricard ondergaat misschien nog een aantal veranderingen voor de Franse Grand Prix van 2020. Volgens Jarno Zaffelli is de configuratie van de chicane op Mistral Straight een van de zaken waar naar gekeken wordt.

Zaffelli, die met zijn bureau Dromo Circuit Design verantwoordelijk is voor het aangepaste Circuit Zandvoort, is door Paul Ricard in de arm genomen om ook op dat circuit een aantal veranderingen in de layout door te voeren. Afgelopen week werd al duidelijk dat de eerste sector op de schop gaat in een poging meer inhaalmogelijkheden te creëren, maar gezegd werd wel dat de chicane op Mistral Straight onaantastbaar is.

In principe herhaalt Zaffelli die woorden: de chicane zal hoe dan ook blijven, maar wel zijn meerdere ontwerpen bij de FIA ingediend met een andere configuratie van de chicane. "Ze moeten de chicane evalueren. Die blijft hoe dan ook, maar niet noodzakelijk in de huidige vorm. Er zijn veel mogelijkheden daar en ze evalueren nu wat beter past bij en haalbaar is voor hun eisen. Daarom ben ik er nog niet zeker van welke versie goedgekeurd wordt", wordt Zaffelli door RaceFans geciteerd.

Paul Ricard had afgelopen jaar al een duizelingwekkend totaal van 160 verschillende configuraties waarop geracet kan worden. Door de voorgestelde veranderingen kan dat aantal nog hoger worden. "Er komen potentieel nog wat andere configuraties. Dat zullen we in de komende weken te weten komen, want het werk zal voor de F1-race gedaan worden. We mikken op maart, waarbij we in april willen afronden."

Frankrijk was echt een dieptepunt dit jaar .

Wat mij betreft mogen ze deze race na dit jaar schrappen .
Frankrijk was echt een dieptepunt dit jaar .

Of ze moeten de waterkranen opendraaien zodat t een regenrace lijkt maar verder heb ik echt totaal niks met dit circuit , en ik denk vele met me

  Ik vond Shanghai ook geen bal aan maar daar toch sensationele races gezien. Wel is Paul Ricard het toppunt van saai inderdaad. De enige die hem zelf in de muur heeft geknald is Grosjean en alle andere crashes kwamen door DRS problemen

  Paul Ricard is zo'n typisch circuit dat leuk is om zelf te rijden, maar verder niet om aan te gluren is als toeschouwer. In de overbevolkte racekalender zou ik deze ook als een van de eerste schrappen.

Die oogverblindende asfaltstroken allereest eens aanpakken.
Verder vind ik Paul Ricard een klassiek F1 circuit. Vroeger werd daar ook niet veel ingehaald. Op Magny Cours was ook altijd veel kritiek. Ik heb liever Paul Ricard maar dan zonder chicane.

  @Pietje Bell: Ja, las het ook net op It. versie van deze site, het grootste probleem ligt op het organisatorische en logistieke vlak (zo zou Sochi o.a. te weinig tijd hebben om nog tickets te kunnen verkopen als het een half jaar naar voren wordt geschoven)

Asfalt genoeg je hoeft alleen maar een paar verflijntjes te veranderen. Dat hele circuit mag van mij van de kalender.

Gewoon een looping maken op het rechte stuk en direct de chicane. Die looping lukt best met 270+, maar wat als de safetycar er door heen moet :).

Wat voor het gevoel ook zal helpen is om de tribunes met publiek op sommige plekken op dat asfalt te zetten, dichter op de actie. Ook al zat er best redelijk publiek, vanaf de bank voor de TV lijkt haast wel of ze in Frankrijk straf hebben en er geen supporters mochten komen kijken, totaal sfeerloos.
