Protesten tegen Grand Prix in Miami verstoord door andere actiegroep

Een actiegroep onder leiding van gemeenteraadslid Barbara Jordan heeft zondag voorafgaand aan de Super Bowl bij het Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens geprotesteerd tegen de komst van de Formule 1 naar Zuid-Florida.

In 2019 kondigden de Formule 1 en Miami Dolphins-eigenaar Stephen Ross aan dat er een akkoord was bereikt om vanaf 2021 tien jaar lang in Miami te racen. Dat moet gebeuren op het grondgebied rond het Hard Rock Stadium, de thuishaven van de Dolphins. In de gemeenteraad en onder de omwonenden zijn er echter de nodige zorgen over de organisatie van de race.

Bij de omwonenden zijn er zorgen over het geluid dat de bolides produceren, terwijl de auto's ook voor extra luchtvervuiling zorgen, zeker in vergelijking met andere evenementen die in en rond het Hard Rock Stadium georganiseerd worden. Vorige week kondigden omwonenden daarom al een protest tegen de race aan en dat zou voorafgaand aan de Super Bowl op het terrein van Hard Rock Stadium gebeuren.

Actiegroep tegen besnijdenis mengt zich in protest

En zo geschiedde: voorafgaand aan de Super Bowl werd er geprotesteerd door tegenstanders van de Miami Grand Prix, en ook raadslid Jordan was daarbij aanwezig. Zij neemt in de gemeenteraad het voortouw in de strijd tegen de race, waarvan ze de verplaatsing naar Miami Gardens tegenover USA Today 'milieuracisme' noemt. Opvallend genoeg was er echter nog een tweede groep protestanten aanwezig.

De Blood Stained Man, een nationale non-profitorganisatie dat een verbod wil op besnijdenis, koos dezelfde plek uit voor hun protest. Dat viel helemaal verkeerd bij raadslid Jordan, die de confrontatie tegen de groep leidde. Volgens Jordan zou de groep betaald worden door Ross, de eigenaar van Hard Rock Stadium, om het protest van de tegenstanders van de Formule 1-race dwars te zitten.

Het bord dat een Formule 1 auto net zoveel lawaai maakt als een F-15, gaf het niveau wel aan van de protesterende mensen. Hetzelfde als het argument dat hulpdiensten gehinderd worden door dit evenement. Als je op Google Maps kijkt, zie je dat geen enkele wijk direct in contact staat met het gebied rondom het circuit. Dus welke belemmering van hulpdiensten?
Altijd leuk in Amerika; hard schreeuwen en gehoord worden.

Dit is toch hilarisch!

Ze maken zich zorgen over de extra uitstoot van de F1 auto's in hun stad. Waarschijnlijk komt het de luchtkwaliteit ten goede als het lokale wagenpark een week of twee de omgeving moet mijden.
