Plannen Deense Grand Prix voorlopig van de kaart

Plannen om een Grand Prix in Denemarken te organiseren zijn voorlopig van de kaart. Organisatoren van de voorgestelde straatrace in Kopenhagen spraken in 2018 met F1-bazen. Ze kregen naar verluidt goedkeuring voor het stratencircuit ontworpen door de beroemde circuitontwerper Hermann Tilke.

"De stad is uniek en het voorgestelde circuit zal zo mooi zijn met de iconische gebouwen op de achtergrond", zei Tilke destijds. Het project, verdedigt door de Deense politicus Helge Sander en de rijke Lars Seier Christensen, kreeg zelfs de steun van de FIA.

Burgemeester Frank Jensen uit Kopenhagen trok zijn steun in, maar volgens de krant BT bleef Sander in het geheim aan de plannen werken. "De Formule 1-organisatie gaf me de opdracht om de mogelijkheden te verkennen en ik heb contact gehad met een aantal steden. Twee van hen (Aalborg en Roskilde) waren realistisch en er was zowel gemeentelijke steun als specifieke interesse van particuliere investeerders. Maar zo'n groot project vereist ook overheidssteun."

Die plannen vorderden helemaal tot Deense premier Mette Frederiksen, die het project doorstuurde naar minister Simon Kollerup. Sander zei: "Ik vroeg om een vergadering waar ik de plannen kon presenteren, maar ontving alleen een schriftelijke reactie."

Sander onthulde dat hij in de brief van de regering werd meegedeeld dat een F1-race ‘momenteel geen prioriteit voor de regering is’. "Ik erken echter de goede stappen die de Formule 1 de laatste tijd zet om de sport beter te maken voor het milieu en ik zou graag later meer over deze ontwikkeling horen”, aldus de brief.

Sander zei dat de reactie een "grote teleurstelling" was. "Er zijn momenteel een aantal landen die proberen op de kalender te komen en ik weet uit mijn ontmoetingen met de Formule 1-organisatie dat ze heel graag in Denemarken willen racen”, zei hij.

Voorlopig zijn de plannen dus van tafel, maar over is het nog zeker niet. Liberty is namelijk op zoek naar meerdere locaties waar de Formule 1 nog kan gaan racen. De Amerikanen willen de kalender uitbreiden naar 25 races.

  Sowieso horen straatraces in mijn opinie niet thuis in de F1.
  Eerlijk gezegd is het eigenlijk 'van de gekke' dat Monaco nog steeds op de kalender staat.
  Ik weet dat Monaco vanwege de historische achtergrond nog steeds wordt aangedaan, maar als je het toetst aan de huidige veiligheids eisen zou dit onmogelijk moeten zijn.
  Je ziet het, ik ben geen fan van straatraces.

  Los daarvan bleek dat er ook maar bar weinig animo was voor de Kmag tribune.
  Het hielp ook niet mee dat zijn teamgenoot Romain “I think Marcus hit me” Grosjean maar amper een fanschare in het land heeft.

Maleisie/Turkije zie ik wel graag terug komen. dan nog Miami erbij en je zit wel vol. heb je mooi 24/25 races.

  Naar mijn mening is 25 te veel, maar ben het wel eens met Maleisië en Turkije. Sochi, Hannoi, Frankrijk en Abu Dhabi kunnen van mij wel weg. Abu Dhabi is alleen leuk wanneer er een kampioenschap op de lijn ligt, maar Sao Paulo bracht vaak in diezelfde scenerio nog veel betere plaatjes.
