Mercedes teast nieuwe livery met minimaal vier kleuren

Mercedes heeft ervoor gekozen om haar bolide op vrijdag 14 februari te presenteren. In de aanloop naar de presentatie heeft het Duitse fabrieksteam een aantal beelden vrijgegeven met kleine brokjes informatie over de nieuwe kleurstelling.

De afgelopen jaren bestond de livery van Mercedes steevast uit de kleuren zilver en groen, de kleur van titelsponsor Petronas. Bovendien bestond een deel van de kleurstelling uit zwart, en in 2019 werd daar op minimale basis rood aan toegevoegd. Dat was ter ere van Niki Lauda, die in de week voorafgaand aan de Grand Prix van Monaco overleed.

Op haar social media-kanalen heeft Mercedes inmiddels een aantal beelden geteast over de nieuwe kleurstelling. Op foto's is te zien dat de kleuren grijs en zwart wederom hun opwachting zullen maken. Bovendien kondigt het team in het bijschrift van haar nieuwste video aan dat ook het groen van Petronas terugkeert op de bolide, terwijl de video onthult dat er nog een andere kleur op de bolide te zien is in 2020.

Afgaande op de video lijkt het rood dus terug te keren op de Mercedes W11. In welke hoedanigheid dat is, is nog niet duidelijk. Mogelijk gaat het wederom om een rood gekleurde ster, zoals dat na de dood van Lauda ook op de W10 het geval was. De toevoeging van de kleur rood kan echter ook gelinkt worden aan nieuwe sponsor AMD, dat in haar communicatie steevast gebruik maakt van de kleur rood.

Een derde optie is dat het rood een prominentere rol gaat spelen door de komst van een andere nieuwe sponsor. INEOS werd recent gelinkt aan een sponsordeal met Mercedes en ook dat zou kunnen leiden tot het gebruik van de rode kleur. In diverse andere sporten is INEOS al actief als sponsor en vaak gebruiken deze teams ook de rode kleur.
