Sochi Autodrom verwerpt 'onacceptabel' voorstel van FOM voor grindbakken

Formula One Management heeft de organisatie van de Russische Grand Prix een voorstel gedaan om in een aantal bochten op het Sochi Autodrom grindbakken te plaatsen in plaats van de gebruikelijke uitloopstroken. Dat 'onacceptabele' voorstel werd echter verworpen.

Het Sochi Autodrom organiseert sinds 2014 op het Olympisch Park in Sochi de Russische Grand Prix. Grindbakken zijn niet te vinden op het circuit en dat leidt vooral in de bochten 2 en 3 af en toe tot hachelijke momenten. Het beste voorbeeld daarvan is de start van een van de Formule 2-races van 2019: meerdere coureurs verlieten de baan, waarna er een grote crash volgde toen Jack Aitken en Nikita Mazepin langs de borden met pijlen terug wilden keren op de baan.

De FOM heeft na afloop van het laatste Grand Prix-weekend in Rusland een voorstel neergelegd bij de organisatie van de race om grindbakken terug te laten keren, maar volgens promotor Sergey Vorobyev is dat voorstel van tafel geveegd. "De organisator van het kampioenschap wil de spanning op de circuits vergroten. Sochi Autodrom kreeg het voorstel om de uitloopstroken in sommige bochten te vervangen met grindbakken, maar dat vinden wij onacceptabel."

'Grindbakken in andere situaties niet juiste oplossing'

De reden daarvoor is het feit dat Sochi Autodrom niet alleen Formule 1-races organiseert. Vorobyev: "De F1 komt een weekend per jaar langs, maar het circuit is het hele jaar door in gebruik. Ook met het vriendelijk zijn voor bijvoorbeeld onze zakelijke cliënten. Een amateur-auto die in het grind komt, heeft gegarandeerd schade aan de lak en de bumpers. We hebben Formula One Management uitgelegd dat dit onacceptabel is voor ons."

De belofte om een nieuw voorstel te doen, is de FOM volgens Vorobyev nog niet nagekomen. "De organisatoren van een aantal andere races - bijvoorbeeld Frankrijk en Abu Dhabi - zitten in dezelfde situatie. Wij zij bereid om specifieke en implementeerbare aanbevelingen te bespreken met de F1 op basis van co-financiering, maar tot dusver is dat nog niet gebeurd."

  Oftwel, Rusland onder Poetin is niet het probleem. Het Rusland na Poetin is potentieel een probleem.
  De russische beer te vriend houden is voor europa gezonder en beter, liever een goede buur dan een verre vriend.
  De verre vriend Amerika heeft het niet zo op onze buur.
  Lekker hun probleem, west europa is zonder het voormalig joegoslavie conflict nog nooit zolang oorlogsvrij geweest als nu.
  
  Hoe harder je probeert europa te verenigen hoe groter de spanningen uiteindelijk en kans op oorlog.
  
  Zolang sponsoren markt zien in Rusland zal de GP daar blijven

  @MAC nu niet doen alsof Amerika alleen staat in hun antipathie tov Rusland, West-Europa heeft ook grote moeite met Rusland vandaar de boycots.
  De Russen hebben het er zelf naar gemaakt en daardoor relaties verzuurd. Zelfs de Russische Beer dient af en toe internationaal gestraft te worden want zonder krachtige weerstand zullen ze nog meer voormalige Sovjet republieken gaan bedreigen. De Baltische staten zijn niet voor niets doodsbenauwd voor het Rusland van Putin en zoeken daarom toenadering tot Europa.
