Video: Megacrash NASCAR tijdens DAYTONA 500

Vannacht tijdens de NASCAR-race op de Speedway van Daytona is een vreselijk ongeluk gebeurd. Tijdens de laatste ronde van de race ging het mis vooraan het veld. Ryan Newman werd meters meegesleurd door zijn auto op het asfalt. De auto van de coureur was total los.

De coureur is meegenomen naar het ziekenhuis. De organisatie van de NASCAR-series kwam met een statement. "Ryan Newman wordt behandeld in het Halifax Medical Center. Hij verkeert in ernstige toestand, maar artsen hebben aangegeven dat zijn verwondingen niet levensbedreigend zijn."

De organisatie verwacht ook respect. "We waarderen uw gedachten en gebeden en vragen dat u de privacy van Ryan en zijn gezin gedurende deze periode respecteert. We stellen uw geduld en medewerking op prijs en zullen meer informatie verstrekken zodra deze beschikbaar komt."

      Vette crashes wel, maar dan wel dat ze meestal "gewoon" uitstappen.... ik ben een groot fan met name van deze super speedway races, maar ik vind dat sommige gasten echt onverantwoord rijden, net als vorige week in de Busch Clash. Dat noemt zich dan de "all-stars". Hopen dat Ryan er weer helemaal boven op komt.

      dit is nog echt oldskool racen, uiteraard wil niemand een verkeerde afloop maar risico's worden geaccepteerd als onderdeel van de sport, ben zelf groot fan van de speedway races, zowel indy als nascar..
      hoop ook dat Newman er helemaal bovenop komt

    Waanzinnig spectaculaire crash, eerste impact denk je nog mwah, maar de tweede impact hoogst ongelukkig aan de bestuurderszijde, gelukkig de verwondingen niet levensbedreigend!

      Dat die gozer die hem een tik geeft nog uitgebreid zijn winst staat te vieren ongelooflijk echt Amerikanen, die teambaas schaamt zich kapot, echt triest iemand het ziekenhuis in crashen en dan op podium staan springen als klein kind aso

      Toch wel, nr 11 tikt de gele auto aan die de nr 6 van de baan tikt, nr 11 wint uiteindelijk, die toch dit heeft veroorzaakt.

    Holy moly....

    Die gasten zijn nog echt gladiatoren zoals ook F1 coureurs dat vroeger waren. Vreselijk ongeluk dit, maar wel part of the game!

    Desalniettemin hoop ik natuurlijk op een volledig en voorspoedig herstel van deze held.

      Oval racing blijft bloedlink. Niet alleen omdat je in de hekken kan belanden, maar ook omdat je 7 van de 10 keer in de baan van je concullega terechtkomt na een crash, en die domweg geen kant meer op kan zoals nu.

    Kan nog wat worden dit seizoen als na één race al zoveel verantwoordelijk zijn voor een crash.
    Er staan er nu al een stuk of vier op de 'pay back list'. Dit maakt Nascar toch wel anders dan andere autosporten en daarmee interessant...
