Pierre Gasly: "Ik ben beter voorbereid doordat ik meer ervaring heb"

Pierre Gasly rijdt dit jaar opnieuw voor een Red Bull-team. Vorig jaar begon de Fransman het seizoen met Red Bull Racing maar moest hij plaatsmaken voor Alexander Albon. De 24-jarige coureur uit Rouen legde het af tegen teamgenoot Max Verstappen en kon het niveau niet aan.

Helmut Marko niet onder de indruk van Gasly

Red Bull-adviseur Helmut Marko was niet onder de indruk van Pierry Gasly. In de tweede Netflix-serie Drive to Survive zitten beelden van het seizoen 2019 waarbij Helmut Marko met Christian Horner in gesprek is en in duidelijke taal aangeeft dat Gasly het niveau niet heeft en moet stoppen zichzelf af te zetten en vergelijken met Max Verstappen.

Terugkijken op 2019

Tijdens de presentatie van Alpha Tauri afgelopen vrijdag vertelde Gasly dat hij 2019 een interessant jaar vond: "Als ik kijk naar vorig jaar bleek dat een interessant jaar geweest te zijn in mijn carrière. Er is vorig jaar veel gebeurd, zowel op professioneel vlak als privéleven. Ik heb het gevoel dat ik groei en veel heb geleerd. Die tweede plaats met Toro Rosso in Brazilie was het tweede beste resultaat voor het team in 14 jaar in de Formule 1. Ik heb het seizoen op de best mogelijke manier af kunnen sluiten."

"Ik ben erg blij hoe de samenwerking is verlopen en kijk erg uit naar het nieuwe seizoen. Ik hoop dat we die kunnen beginnen zoals we 2019 zijn geëindigd."

Pierry Gasly begint dit jaar aan zijn derde seizoen in de Formule 1. Met twee jaar ervaring op zak denkt hij beter voorbereid te zijn ten opzichte van vorig jaar. De Alpha Tauri-coureur: "Ik denk dat we op de juiste weg zijn voor 2020 maar we zullen de testsessies af moeten wachten."

"Er valt altijd iets te leren. Dit is pas mijn derde seizoen in de Formule 1. Ik ben beter voorbereid dan vorig jaar, daarbij heb ik nu ook iets meer ervaring en dat helpt zeker."

Als coureurs tijdens testdagen crashen is dat lang niet altijd de fout/schuld van de coureur zelf. Soms krijgen ze de opdracht om de wagen tot op de limiet te testen en dan kan er wel eens een keer iets fout gaan. Een team heeft er dan veel minder problemen mee als sommigen wel eens denken.

Ik weet niet of Gasly correct geciteerd wordt links en rechts, maar als ik uitspraken hoor dat ie niet van plan is dingen anders te doen bij bijvoorbeeld de wintertests dan denk ik dat ie helemaal niks heeft geleerd. Ook de uitspraak dat ie liever crashed bij de tests als bij een race geeft voor mij klip en klaar aan dat ie niks heeft geleerd en nog zo stom is als het achtereind van een kikkerbil. Onvoorstelbaar, ik neem toch aan dat ze 'm verleden jaar bij RBR uitgelegd hebben dat ze door zijn crashes bij de wintertests zoveel data gemist hebben dat ze er 2-3 maanden achterstand door opliepen? Gasly heeft simpelweg niet het niveau om in een topteam te rijden. Kvyat ook niet trouwens. Wisten ze bij RBR ook wel, is niet voor niks dat ie dat STR stoeltje niet eind 2015 kreeg maar pas een jaar later.
