Kimi Raikkonen: "Mercedes is echt wel te verslaan"

Kimi Raikkonen staat volgende week aan de start van zijn 18e seizoen in de Formule 1. De Fin zegt dat zijn voormalige team Ferrari in 2020 niet zo gemakkelijk moet worden afgeschreven. Hoewel er nog geen race is gereden dit jaar, zijn de meeste analytici, inclusief Ferrari zelf, het erover eens dat de 2020-auto van het Italiaanse team in de wintertests achterbleef op Mercedes en Red Bull Racing.

Sommigen gaan ervan uit dat Mercedes een zevende opeenvolgende titel zal pakken in 2020, maar voormalig Ferrari-coureur Raikkonen is daar niet zo zeker van.

"Ik denk niet dat Mercedes onverslaanbaar is", zei de Fin, die twee keer voor Ferrari reed, waaronder zijn eerste seizoen in 2007 toen hij de titel won. "Bij Mercedes hebben ze de afgelopen jaren wel vaker races verloren, zelfs ondanks dat ze altijd lagen en consistent goed presteerden."

Verbeterpunten voor Ferrari

De 40-jarige Alfa Romeo-coureur zei dat Ferrari twee belangrijke factoren heeft om aan te werken. "Ze moeten het tempo verhogen en consistenter zijn. Als ze dat kunnen, kunnen ze inspraak in het kampioenschap hebben. Ik hoop dat ze dat kunnen."

Raikkonen waarschuwde echter dat niet te veel kan worden opgemaakt uit de resultaten van de wintertest in Barcelona. "Er zijn altijd veel krantenkoppen en verhalen over de machtsverhoudingen, maar als we naar de laatste 10 of 15 jaar kijken, was de beste test niet altijd degene die de titel won. Een test is geen race."

Binotto heeft een brief naar alle Ferrari werkneemster gestuurd waarin hij vertelde dat ze niet gaan winnen in Australië en dat ze de eerste 6 races vermogen tekort komen.
Hij hoopt dat ze met hard werken zichzelf nog kunnen verbeteren.
Je kan sandbaggen maar dit gaat natuurlijk nergens over. Grote problemen daar. Je vraagt je echt af hoe het kan dat ze het daar zo verknald hebben met zijn allen.

  Ja leuk dat sarcasme maar zoals het er nu naar uitziet wordt er gewoon helemaal niet gereden. Ik begin zelfs twijfels te krijgen over de australische GP en de Nederlandse. ik ga ervan uit dat we voorlopig helemaal niks te zien krijgen.
  
  Het hele feestje gaat gewoon niet door denk ik. volgend jaar weer een jaar zullen we dan maar zeggen. Best wel ziek van.(nee geen corona:p)

  Maar je bent blijkbaar serieus. Binnotto heeft aangegeven dat ze echt geen verstoppertje spelen. al vertrouw ik ze helemaal niet meer op hun blauwe ogen....
