Carlos Sainz: "Ik heb geen idee wanneer we dit seizoen gaan beginnen"

Carlos Sainz zegt dat het onmogelijk is om te bedenken wanneer het mogelijk zal zijn om het F1-seizoen 2020 te beginnen. De tweede Grand Prix van het kampioenschap zou afgelopen weekend in Bahrein hebben plaatsgevonden. Maar die race is samen met alle eerste zeven races afgelast vanwege het wereldwijde coronavirus.

Het kampioenschap begint momenteel met de Grand Prix van Azerbeidzjan op 7 juni, al zijn er nu op dit moment verhalen dat ook die Grand Prix en mogelijk de races erna ook afgelast moeten worden.

Niemand weet wanneer

Gevraagd op de sociale media wanneer hij verwacht dat het seizoen begint, zei Sainz: "Het is een vraag waarvan ik denk dat niemand op dit moment het antwoord weet. Het is onmogelijk om het te weten, maar hopelijk snel. Hopelijk blijven we thuis, en zal het snel gebeuren zodat we dan allemaal terug naar ons normale leven. Maar het is zeker een vreemde situatie."

Coronatest voor Sainz

Sainz is in zelf-isolatie in zijn huis in Spanje na zijn terugkeer uit Australië, waar de openingswedstrijd van het seizoen kort voor het begin van de training werd geannuleerd. Hij liet zich bij terugkomst voor de zekerheid testen op het coronavirus maar testte negatief.

"Ik voel me geweldig", zei hij. "Ik ben zelf in quarantaine gegaan sinds we terug zijn uit Australië. Ik voel echter me geweldig. Ik train eerlijk gezegd meer dan ooit omdat er zoveel tijd is om het te doen. Deze trainingen gaan goed."

Maar als zelfs Carlos al geen idee heeft wanneer het seizoen begint,wie dan wel?

  Niemand, las in een bericht dat de komende 3 maanden nog spannend zou zijn. dat zou dan april, mei en juni zijn. Misschien is België wel de openings race.

  Niemand, en dat is ook prima. Formule 1 en andere competitie sporten is wel het laatste waar we ons nu druk over moeten maken. Ga er maar vanuit dat het makkelijk nog tot de zomerstop kan duren voordat er weer iets op gang komt, en zo niet, dan niet.

  DAT denk ik dus ook.. 't Is nu ook totaal onbelangrijk of ze wel gaan racen dit jaar. Eerst deze pandemie onder controle krijgen en dan zien we wel weer.
