'Red Bull en Ferrari ontdekken geheim van Mercedes'

Red Bull Racing en Ferrari zijn achter het geheim van de versnellingsbak van concurrent Mercedes gekomen. Daarom liggen deze twee teams dwars in gesprekken tussen de renstallen om verregaande kostenbesparingen voor volgend seizoen door te voeren, schrijft Auto Motor und Sport.

Het gaat dan om de bevriezing van de ontwikkeling van onderdelen als de versnellingsbak en de wielophanging. Daarnaast moet het budgetlimiet in 2021 veel lager komen te liggen dan de beoogde 175 miljoen dollar. De internationale autosportbond FIA en Formule 1-baas Chase Carey denken aan een budgetplafond van rond de 100 miljoen dollar.

Mercedes houdt zich afzijdig in die discussie. Red Bull Racing en Ferrari verzetten zich. De reden daarvoor is niet financieel van aard, maar sportief. Red Bull Racing en Ferrari zouden namelijk ontdekt hebben hoe het kan dat Mercedes de versnellingsbak met slechts vier bouten aan de motor vast hoeft te maken.

Red Bull Racing-Honda en Ferrari gebruiken daar nog zes bouten voor. Als gevolg daarvan is de transmissie breder dan die van Mercedes. Dat zorgt voor een aerodynamisch nadeel en daarom willen Red Bull Racing en Ferrari voor volgend jaar een nieuwe versnellingsbak kunnen bouwen.

      Het probleem voor Ferrari en Red Bull is dat de versnellingsbakken van Mercedes niet afbreken, oftewel ze zijn in het nadeel.

      Was vergeten bij te zeggen, waarom ze niet allemaal dezelfde bak hebben, alleen begin van seizoen overbrengverhouding specifiek voor motor vast stellen. Dat als enige variable.

      Denk zelf dst het meer een excuus is om wat geld vrij te houden voor r/d naar performance verbeteringen.
      Zodat budgetplatform niet te laag uitkomt

      Ongelofelijk eigenlijk dat dan nu een versnellingsbak (vroeger dubbele diffusor, turbos, tracktion control, launch control) etc. etc. zo veel voordeel kan opleveren t.o.v. de concurrentie.

      Dit is waarom ik van de F1 hou.

    Het voordeel van 4 ipv 6 snap ik nog niet echt. Er staat hier dat de bak daardoor smaller kan maar er zijn toch standaard afmetingen juist bij die koppelstukken om uitwissing van onderdelen makkelijker te maken?

      Power unit mountings may only comprise six M12 studs for connection to the survival cell and
      six M12 studs for connection to the transmission. All studs MUST BE USED and may be fitted on
      the survival cell, power unit or transmission. The installed end of the studs must be M12 and
      the free end may be a different diameter.

      Blijkt dat die regels er alleen voor de PU zijn. Maar er staat wel dat alle 6 gaten gebruikt moeten worden. Dus hoe MB dat omzeilt is een raadsel.

      Nee, er staat dat alle gaten gebruikt moeten worden en dat je er maximaal 6 mag hebben. Je mag er geen maken en niet gebruiken.

      Zo lees ik het niet en wat jij zegt gaat ook voorbij aan de regel van vaste connectie punten zodat motor een bak makkelijk gewisseld kunnen worden indien je van fabrikant wisselt.

      The mounting faces of the studs for connection to the transmission must lie on one vertical plane parallel to C-C and be located at Y100/Z15(2), Y150/Z140(2) and Y255/Z345(2).

      Als MB er dus maar 4 gebruikt, lijkt mij dat zij 1 lokatie niet gebruiken zodat daar ruimte voordeel te halen is. Voordeel lijkt mij verwaarloosbaar als je maar 1 bout bij 2 lokaties doet en 2 bouten bij de laatste lokatie. Mocht 1 lokatie niet gebruikt worden, dan is de connectie maar met 66% van het contactoppervlakte. Vreemde zaak vooral omdat er veel kracht op komt te staan en de verbinding onderdeel is van het chassis. Laten wij maar wachten op meer insider info.

      @MCL34, er staat nergens "max", ik denk dat je "may only comprise six M12 studs" moet vertalen dat er alleen maar 6 bouten mogen worden gebruikt, dus geen 7 maar ook geen 4 of 5.
