Gesteggel over invoering en hoogte van budgetplafond

De invoering en de hoogte van het budgetlimiet vormen momenteel een heikel punt in de gesprekken tussen de diverse Formule 1-teams. De koningsklasse van de autosport is in meerdere kampen verdeeld geraakt, schrijft Auto Motor und Sport. De kleine teams dringen door de ingrijpende (economische) impact aan op een budgetplafond van 100 miljoen dollar per 2021, iets waar de grote teams zich niet in kunnen vinden.

Red Bull Racing heeft een tegenvoorstel ingediend; een budgetlimiet van 150 miljoen dollar. Voorwaarde is dan wel dat de invoering ervan net als de technische reglementen uitgesteld wordt tot 2022 (of 2023). Mercedes kan zich wel vinden in dat idee en heeft zich bij de Oostenrijkse renstal aangesloten, al zou moederbedrijf Daimler meer kostenbesparingen aanmoedigen.

Ferrari

Het enige team dat niet bereid lijkt concessies te doen of compromissen te sluiten op dit vlak, is Ferrari. De Scuderia blijft vooralsnog vasthouden aan het beoogde budgetplafond van 175 miljoen dollar. In plaats van het verlagen van het limiet naar 150 miljoen dollar - iets waar de privé-teams volgens Ferrari toch niks aan hebben - denken ze in Maranello aan andere maatregelen.

De Italiaanse renstal stuurt bijvoorbeeld eerder aan op de invoering van een regel om het chassis vanaf de vrijdagochtend tijdens een Grand Prix-weekend te homologeren. Op die manier zou de geldrovende gewoonte om constant nieuwe onderdelen aan te voeren een halt worden toegeroepen. Daarnaast zou ook het salaris van de rijders onder het budgetplafond kunnen vallen, iets wat in de oorspronkelijke plannen niet de bedoeling is.

130 miljoen

Maandag vergaderen de teams met de internationale autosportbond FIA en de commerciële rechtenhouder FOM en dan zal dit ongetwijfeld ter sprake komen. De kleine teams zetten niet voor niets hoog (of beter gezegd; laag) in met een limiet van 100 miljoen dollar. Ze verwachten dan ergens tussen de 100 en 150 miljoen dollar uit te komen. Een budgetplafond van 130 miljoen dollar zou het voordeel van big spenders Mercedes, Red Bull Racing en Ferrari grotendeels neutraliseren.

Prima, dat zou de competitie kunnen verhogen tussen alle teams en kunnen de rijders misschien weer meer het verschil maken. En dan heb ik het niet alleen over Max, Lewis etc.

Hoogte is niet heel relevant. Hoe gaan ze dit in vredesnaam handhaven? Via interessante constructies zal er ongetwijfeld meer ontwikkeld kunnen worden door de teams met nog meer geld.

  Precies, en niet te vergeten de faciliteiten op de fabrieken van de absolute topteams die zijn op een dergelijk level dat zullen de kleine teams nooit inhalen. Samen met allerlei interessante constructies zal er altijd een groot verschil blijven. Dat hele budgetplafond riekt naar een uiteindelijke schijnvertoning in de uitvoering. We zullen het zien, wel een interessante verandering.

  Je zegt het goed, schijnvertoning. Het is simpelweg niet te controleren. Als teams de zaak willen flessen dan doen ze dat zonder in de problemen te komen, controle is gewoonweg niet mogelijk. Er is altijd een weg buiten de boeken om.
